I find it interesting that when Playtime was an OOP title, it went for like $50 - $75 on eBay. Now we have the box set; the original release is still supposed to have better PQ and yet it seems to be one of the worst sellers on the secondary market. I might have to take my chances and pick it up.

For a large poster like the Apu poster, it will cost probably around $250... maybe more. For whatever reason, poster framing is expensive here in the U.S.

On a somewhat related note, you can get auto body work done in India for like $20 or so.. same work in the States costs around $700. Eyeglasses, too. Frames and lenses can be had for like $20. Here they will cost you a few hundred.
Gosh that sucks :/ but as I said once its framed it will look stunning and worth every penny! Have you tried looking online to see if you can find right size frame to be delivered and from yourself?

Shame they do ask for a lot of money for framing though, I've screwed up few times myself though >.< I have like 10 LARGE images waiting to be framed but waiting for some money to do that and waiting to clear my spare room out so I have a place to put them :P!

Gotta love the Barnes & Noble coupons and sales. I just used the 20% Father's Day coupon in conjunction with the 40% off sale and membership discount to get the Batman: The Complete Series box set for $109.

I looked through the Criterion rack, but I'm all good on Criterion titles now until the 50% off sale hits, and, by then, I'll only be getting three or four titles at the most.

EDIT: It turns out that I could have bought the Batman set for a lot cheaper by getting the region free Italian discs, but the set's in my hand now and all is good.

I swear UK NEVER gets amazing sales like this..... then again we have hardly any decent stores for film.

CEX is ok but depending on the store you can have really crappy films in or really good ones (got Medea for £5 BFI bluray today!)

HMV charges a fortune for what they offer and rarely ever reduce prices...

Fopp is great but like only a few stores across UK..

Us UK'ers have such a rough time lol

I'd rather pay to have someone do it. I'm too much of a perfectionist. I'll know every part of the picture that is flawed and I don't think that I'd have the materials or know how to equal the quality of work that a framer is capable of.

With that said, I don't think $125 is too much. The pic helps make a room look great and will be up there for a LONG time. I hear what Shell is saying/joking about 6 blu-rays or how many ever, but for value, I actually think the pic provides more of it.

The two other pics I have have been up on my walls for like 20 years and they still look great.

The 'other' site has the Hiroshima mon amour review up. It's going to be a great release.

CEX is a dive, I hate that place. HMV have really turned their business around in the past twelve months tho, and compete well with online alternatives. New MoC releases regularly sell for £10, and while their back catalogue leaves a lot to be desired it's understandable that they're wary about stock control given their recent troubles. HMV are actually selling the Batman set that Owl bought for £79, which is only a few pounds more than B+N.

I've just picked up the 6-disc Masters Of Cinema Lubitsch In Berlin box-set for £12.99 from Amazon in the Eureka sale over there, so you'll hear no complaints about sales from me!

It looks like it might give Every Man For Himself a run for it's money as title of the year.

My HMV in Lincoln stocks hardly any MoC which is annoying, and only a few Arrow releases ...

Tati is a treasure to me. Reading people talk about how to watch his films or what's funny or not about them, picturing people with cross arms and serious faces trying to get through them is almost as amusing as one of his movies! I introduced him to my nephew as the 'cinematic Mr Bean' to get him into it, but that's really doing the films a disservice. My fav: Trafic

Concerning playtime, I had the original release and sold it off (as you mentioned it was a curiously hard sell), I think the colours on the new issue are better.

Just an idea.... If you haven't, watch with commentary. David Bordwell does a great job for Autumn Afternoon, helps give insight into what makes an Ozu film an Ozu Film.

Having seen both, I most definitely think the new Playtime blu is a huge improvement. Too many digital anomalies on the first one.

Zatoichi Meets Yojimbo is one of the worst films in the Zatoichi series. It is a shame too, because they had all the elements for it to be awesome.

Just got back from B&N myself for my second go-round on the current sale. Picked up three more Olive titles (The Devil and Miss Jones, Indiscreeet, and The Bells of St. Mary's) and Twin Peaks: The Entire Mystery.

Yes, I bought my copy of Play Time on eBay within the last month for $19.99 with free shipping ... brand new and still sealed. I hadn't read anything about it having better PQ than the disc in the box set, so that's a nice bonus.

The new disc has worse PQ? Isn't it a 4K remaster?

I think some have a problem with the color timing. They think the 2014 blu-ray's colors are too warm.

Framing is one thing that I find costs an absolute fortune over here compared to back home in England. Even a simple 8x10 frame can cost upwards of $40. When I purchase art now try to only buy boxed canvas.

Sadly Criterion have never produced a poster of a film I love.
