So they posted a Kiarostami picture on Facebook. Does that mean nothing or is Koker Trilogy coming next?

I just cannot believe they haven't announced a true box-set yet. I don't count the Shawn/Gregory box because we had two already in the collection.

The Koker Trilogy is definitely coming, but if I recall correctly, they said at the Wexner Conference that it wouldn't be ready until 2016.

just read a synopsis of these three films on this page:

http://www.rogerebert.com/far-flung-...reatest-movies

the first film sounds like it'd be interesting. I'm confused though by the second two. are they documentaries? faux-documentaries?

any fans of these films?

Happy Birthday, Abbas.

Yeah, probably a red herring then.

I just hope we get more boxes at the end of the year. Apu will be huge, but I have to think at least one more is coming.

I was trying to compile a list of Digipack criterion releases and short lived Blu+DVD (in the same package) releases. Are these all the Digipack releases they have or had?

[Show spoiler]Ace in the Hole (Digi)
Breaking the Waves (Digi)
Breathless (Digi)
Fantastic Mr. Fox (Digi)
Foreign Correspondent (Digi)
The Freshman (Digi)

They're not documentaries. The wording in the descriptions is a bit funny.

That would absolutely be on my short list if I didn't already have TLGF and even at that, it's still tempting. It looks like a fantastic set.

Sorry I can't be of more help, but off the top of my head to improve your list Eraserhead was never a combo pack, and you are missing a few digipack releases such as Amarcord.

Looks like you're missing a bunch of digipaks, and I don't think George Washington ever came in a digipak. Off the top of my head:

[Show spoiler]
Eraserhead
Amarcord
Salo
The Leopard
Repo Man
The Night of The Hunter
Slacker
Battle Of Algiers
Fanny And Alexander
Sansho
Sweet Smell Of Success
Carlos
On The Waterfront
Earings of Madame De... (I think? )

Plus there are the original blus which came in those open top cardboard cases that were fairly quickly replaced.

The transfer on the new release would make it hard for me to stomach the old one. It's like 'Blu-Ray 101', pretty much perfection. Comparison

Sweet Smell Of Success
Carlos
On The Waterfront

and a few others you mentioned, I remember them seeing too...I will update my list

edit:- Now I remember how I missed out on so many...I compiled the list of blu-dvd releases and then separated the digipak releases...I did that few months back & forgot I did it that way...

Was at B&N today, just browsing, and noticed Vampyr wasnt packaged with the book any more (or someone swapped it out for a clear case?). Any idea how long they've been putting out the non-book version? Decided to hold off buying it last time, but I want it more this time:P

So.. maybe I should skip this!
I had my brushes with alcohol during my college days and through my 20s, but I do not drink at all now, save for the rare occasion of a red wine with a steak or something of the sort.

That said, I loved Wake in Fright on its own terms as an unsettling movie.

Have you ever had a time in your life where you somehow randomly ended up being befriended by an unfamiliar group of people and spent a few chaotic hours with them where you had no real idea what you were doing with them and where you were apprehensive about being drawn into a situation that was totally alien to your normal day-to-day routine?

If so, then you'll relate to Wake in Fright.

Wake in Fright is a superb viewing in terms of the escalating sense of dread and chaos that it exudes.

The Third Man was classed as a Digi I think, replaced with the plastic-case version (which is the one I have).

I bought Foreign Correspondent and Tess in the B&N November sale last year - both combo BD/DVD.

I'm not sure how to respond to that question. I don't think of any national cinema as having any "motifs and themes and idiosyncrasies that define" it. Aussie cinema covers the same issues as that of any other country: jealousy, family, honor, rage, love, pride, and so on. For example, one film I happened to mention, Weekend of Shadows, mines the same sort of emotional ore as The Ox-Bow Incident. Films dealing with prejudice against the Aboriginies are at their heart no different than American films dealing with the treatment of blacks or Indians. Quigley Down Under could just as well be set in the American West. The Mad Max films, likewise.

To me, what makes Australian cinema as strong as it simply its talent. The Australian New Wave of the 1970s was a revelation because up to that point, there really wasn't much of an industry down there (at least, not in international terms), and suddenly there was this large amount of talented people making films there.

The digipacks used for Red River, Carlos, Battle of Algiers, Seven Samurai, etc. is my favorite CC packaging.

Hiroshima mon amour Blu-ray REVIEW

I've already left quite a few comments here about this restoration (last year), but here's one more enthusiastic recommendation: The film looks terrific now and the Blu-ray represents a huge upgrade in quality over the R1 DVD. Given how delicate the visual composition of this film is, I think that this is one of the best restorations of a black-and-white film to come out of France
