I've seen it a few times, but like most of Godard's films, I buy them out of respect for the filmmakers and the filmmaking art itself, and want to have them in my collection despite not liking the films that much.

That Wolfpack closet video is the best. Sometimes I get annoyed when rich directors grab all these free DVDs because, well, they can afford all of them and then some. These kids had genuine excitement. That may be my favorite closet video in a long time.

I thought it was great too. I love that one of them kept reminding his brothers that they have a blu-ray player because the rest just kept grabbing DVD's haha

I was able to grab Insomnia, Cronos, The Devils Backbone & Tokyo Drifter today from the sale. Still gotta go back for Scanners, Videodrome, Ride with the Devil & The Game before the sale ends.

The Australian dollar is at a six year low, ordering from B&N is cheaper than usual, but not amazing. Just as the sale started, before I went to checkout, I found out we have a 'retro Brittish film festival' coming here!

Since I have gotten in to Criterion films and deeper into classic films, I have been wishing we had a revivial cinema here, and I have never known of such a classic festival to come to Perth before, so I decided to not buy any Criterions at this sale and try to see as many of these movies as I can.

Brassed Off
The Third Man
The Red Shoes
The 39 Steps
Tales of Hoffman
Slumdog Millionaire
Sense and Sensibility
Peeping Tom
Lawrence of Arabia
Kind Hearts and Coronets
I Know Where I'm Going
Great Expectations
Black Narcissus
A Room With a View
A Man For All Seasons
2001 A Space Odyssey
Gosford Park
Brief Encounter
Don't Look Now

There are a few there I have no interest in, a few that I have never seen and some absolute favourite that I can't wait to see on the big screen!

I'm even planning to take some days off work to see as many as I can!

I'm glad to see all the love for Powell & Pressburger! I would love to see those films on the big screen. Too bad Colonel Blimp didn't make the cut, though. Hopefully we'll be seeing some new Blu-rays from Criterion for some of these titles.

Yeah, P&P are my favourite Criterion discovery, so I couldn't be more excited! My wife and I will see I Know Where I'm Going together, which will be our first viewing. I hope I can make it to most of the others too! (We have a 2 1/2 year old, so I doubt we'll make it to more than a couple together)

Made my first purchases of the sale today (using the $5 off $40 I was informed of by hariseldon and Vinyl; Thanks guys!). My first round included: Don't Look Now, Autumn Afternoon, and Days of Heaven. All blind buys (although I am familiar with all three directors).

Just watched Don't Look Now aaaaannnd... damn. Disappointed. There are some great sequences and shots, but overall it seems like "Roeg Makes a B-Movie" that never pays off.

Although I want to see every movie Roeg has made, I am now wishing I had picked up L'avventura instead (a movie I already adore) or any Fassbinder. Guess I'll brush up on some new ones (Truffaut?) via Hulu to get educated for the next run (2-3 movies).

There's still plenty of time during the sale. Are the members coupons available once per membership?

Had a blast sorting through the Criterion Blu-ray titles today at my local B&N. I always go in with an idea of what I want to purchase, but I always walk out with crazily different titles.

Here is what I got:

Nashville
Ace in the Hole
L'avventura
Wild Strawberries

Overall, an awesome haul for me.

Nashville is one of the best films ever made.

I went to the store to buy Battle of Algiers and Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, but when I subjected the Fear and Loathing case to closer examination I noticed that the design paper had slipped just below the plastic cover holding it place.

...only two or three millimeters.

Clearly an issue of faulty glue, but that's unacceptable for a man of my lofty OCD-driven standards. So I asked the cashier to order my a new copy.

He looked at me like I was insane.

I bought the Killers and A Master Builder but am curious about Carlos and Palm Beach Story. I've never seen the later two, can anyone recommend as blind buys? Also need Two Lane Blacktop but Ive seen that one.

If you like screwball comedies, Palm Beach Story is a great example of one.

I think Baby Ruths would be more appropriate.

Thinking about picking up Carlos as well.

This thing has a 94% rating on Rotten Tomatoes...is it really that good?

Good, great, classic...Battle of Algiers classic?

Any feedback would be appreciated?

Carlos is absolutely fantastic. On an intellectual level I have no trouble with the thought that somebody might not like it. On an emotional level I can't even conceive of anybody not liking it.
