That film would be a perfect fit for the collection
Signature edition is a generic remark unless he is referring to the Signature series that Fox was running. The Iron Giant has a cult following and it's quite imaginable that Warner could give it some love. They have produced some of the most lavish releases for their prestigious classic studio hits. The Iron Giant may not get a Wizard of Oz style packaging, but it could still get some solid on-disc features that make it a special release.

I still don't understand all the love and following of this film.
I saw it once, and it seemd to me an OK film.
Maybe I should watch it again..

It took me a couple of attempts with DLN before it clicked for me.

I loved Walkabout and The Man Who Fell to Earth. Both were so intense. Years ago, a friend recommended Don't Look Now and since it was a Roeg film, I was very excited to see it.

I too was disappointed. Many good scenes but in the end, I didn't think it was worth the payoff for the setup. I do want to give it another go since Criterion released it. Maybe, like you, it will take a couple of viewing before it clicks.

Also, really enjoyed The Witches which I finally got to see last year. It was a fun flick.

Oh come on, there's nothing greedy about any of this. A bunch of kids were told to take whatever they wanted, and they did.

How anyone could be cynical about that lovely video is completely beyond me.

Picked up four at the B&N sale:

Eraserhead
The Devil's Backbone
The Blob (blind buy)
On the Waterfront (blind buy)

Thoughts/expectations for the blind buys?

The Blob is much too campy for me, but On the Waterfront is top-notch. Brando and Eva Marie Saint are wonderful, and the transfer looks quite good. It seems a little useless to have three different versions of the film, though (let's face it, I'm really only ever going to use the first disc).

Alfonso Cuaron did the same thing. They're allowed to take what they want, so Cuaron took what he wanted. Same thing.

The Blob was a one-time watch for me (saw it on DVD). If anything it exists to show Steve McQueen's luminous quality even as a newcomer in a strictly B-level movie. He's sincere enough to play Hamlet while everyone around him is either incompetent or slumming it.

On the Waterfront - excellent movie, great performances. I also found the multiple aspect ratios an unnecessary element that also added to the SRP of the package. Perhaps CC can also start the trend of limited run editions for those who want all the aspect ratios and don't mind paying extra for it.

I'm saying this all the time..

I think foreign films of the 90s are under-represented in the collection!
Only 13 so far:

Most of my most wanted foreign films are 90s.

I too hope that I enjoy it when I see it again. I just have a hard time imagining a scenario where I have the desire to put it back into the player over innumerable other films. Maybe during my yearly run of horror films in October.

The more I think back on the scenarios and the characters, the more I feel like it is an extremely generic B-horror flick that anyone could have made and everyone has (excluding much of the cinematography).

On a more positive note, I HIGHLY recommend Bad Timing. Roeg's stable manipulation of chronology is at its pinnacle here.

I can dig b-grade horror, but I could see something as old as the original Blob being a little too much cheese for me. Think I'll twin bill that with the 1988 remake (which I've also never seen). Both films tend to show up on a lot of horror lists. Not that that means anything, but I feel obligated to get them under my belt.

Very excited for On the Waterfront, the story and setting sounds right up my alley.

Picked up 4 yesterday at my local B&N - all recent releases:

The Confession
State of Siege
The Fisher King
The Killers

I'll go back next week for Hiroshima mon amour, and that'll be it for me this sale. I have a handful of older releases I want to catch up on, but I'll wait for the next Criterion flash sale to grab those.

Speaking of Campy anyone have thoughts on the Eclipse set When Horror Came to Shochiku?

Picked up:
Time Bandits
Fisher King
Killers
Investigation of a Citizen Above Suspicion (Blind Buy)
Gates of Hell ( even though I have the MoC version, but it was cheap )
The Big City ( Music Room is one of my favorites)

Was contemplating picking up Valerie and her week of wonders. Think I will pick that up today along with a few others.

In preparation for the release of Dressed to Kill next month, I rewatched the film on Movieplex on Demand this past weekend. Although De Palma's gender bending suspense thriller is a great film, albeit a rehashing of Hitchcock's Psycho, it is most certainly not the masterpiece it is touted to be. The direction and cinematography are top notch, which is to be expected from De Palma. The museum sequence in particular is absolutely brilliant. However, the plot becomes more increasingly implausible as the film progresses. The film is most assuredly an exercise in style rather than substance, but still manages to work in spite of it. In my opinion, his magnum opus is still his 1976 film Carrie. Oh, how I would swoon over the chance of a Criterion release of that film.

What do you all think of Dressed to Kill? What is your favorite Brian De Palma film?
