I've got all my orders delayed on BN.com, is it normal ? It says they anticipate to ship them in 1-5 days... Are they in backorder ?

could be. Last summer I pre-ordered Made in USA during the sale and it was backordered for some reason. Just keep up with them by e-mail or call early next week.

Did you order any pre-orders or any announced out of print films?

Edit:
It could also be that you live in Canada.

I thought they were all good. I notice you went for mostly newer films, though. I think the hardest transition for a lot of people is watching movies in black and white.

Since we talk about other company's releases, I like to take this time and recommend something that I have had for a while and just now posting about:

It comes in a cool hard-book like thing with pretty pictures for you case freaks.

http://www.amazon.com/Beautiful-Song...9344880&sr=8-1

It's awesome, so for all you Warhol fans. Lou Reed fans. Dennis Hopper fans. Nico fans. Edie Sedgwick fans. etc. etc. GET IT!

This is true, but i wasnt to bias i picked up Yojimbo/Sanjuro.

So give me some recommendations of black and whites, I was looking at 81/2 or 400 blows.

The 400 Blows would be a great start. 8 1/2 is really good, but it can be a little bit more difficult to get into for people new to this kind of cinema. I'd certainly recommend The Wages of Fear, though, as well. If you enjoy The 400 Blows, check out 8 1/2 and The Seventh Seal.

Some of the better, and oftentimes, more rewarding viewing experiences take a little more effort on your part as the viewer. As you work your way through some of the more easily digestible material, if you find you like what you see, two of the best titles currently out on Criterion blu, Last Year at Marienbad and Vivre sa vie, are both black and white. However, I would not recommend jumping straight into a purchase of either of those films.

Just like with "The Leopard," which is a 3-hour film, I'm 99% sure that the entire film portion of "Seven Samurai" will be on the first disc.

There's no such thing as "black & white films", just films.
A film being black & white or not isn't what should define it, there are great B&W films and great colour films.
But to take your question at face value, 400 Blows and Wages of Fear (both subtitled in case that's an issue) are both fantastic and IMO very accessible.
M, Seventh Seal and Vivre sa Vie are equally as good, but you might want to try the other two first. The Third Man is probably quite hard to find now, also well worth a look.

well that theatre (AFI theatre) is actually in silver spring MD which is just a short trip up on the metro from DC but I guess close enough for them to call it the DC area.

I'm very fortunate to live very close to that, just saw back to the future and breathless there last night

Can't wait for the Chaplin films to start!

If you are into silent films...the silent film festival Slapsticon is happening this weekend in Arlington, Virginia.

I thought about purchasing it but it looks like people uploaded the segments up on YouTube. Granted, I don't know if there are special features included but I had wanted to get this DVD for some time (along with other Warhols). I hope Criterion considers Warhol and Maya Deren for CC or Eclipse release.

Is anyone planning on getting anything during the 50% off sale that started yesterday at B&N? Does anyone have a link for a $10 off coupon like last time?

There never was a $10 coupon, just $5 one.

It started on Tuesday. There never was a $10 coupon. There's a $5 off $20 dvd, $5 off $50 purchase, a 15%, and a 10%. I used almost all twice, on two separate cards.

Got:

Revanche
The Leopard
Che
Summer Hours
For All Mankind
Everlasting Moments
8 1/2
Days of Heaven
Playtime

Still might get Vivre sa Vie, Black Narcissus (when it comes out on Tues), Chungking Express, The Last Emperor, Red Desert, and Paris, Texas.

Go to the hot deals section for all the info you need on the sale.
