Well, the Royals are evil, so there you are.

Evil? Heyyy, at least we never had Jeff Weaver!

But on second thought, we did have Ambiorix Burgos at one time, and he was accused of murder.

Yeah, I don't think either of us have a valid argument on the "not being evil" front.

The Senior Circuit has only one thing over the American League, and that's Bartolo Colon at-bats. Funniest thing I have ever seen.

Absolutely. One of the great lost-in-the-vault noirs that many had never seen until Criterion dusted it off to give us a stellar transfer. You can read people's thoughts and user reviews in the thread dedicated to it.

It's not in my list of top noirs (and I'm not even the biggest noir fan), but it certainly is a very good movie, with a brutal lead performance from Robert Montgomery.

What are people's thoughts on "In the Mood for Love", and how do you rank it compared to "Chungking Express" and "Fallen Angels"?

Ended up blind buying "In the Mood" because I've loved the other two Kar-wai films I've seen and because I've recently visited Hong Kong.

I think that In The Mood For Love is his best film of the ones I've seen, which includes the other two mentioned. There was a time that I just watched it all the time. I believe that it's easily one of the best films I've ever seen, in any language, from any time period.

The cinematography is amazing -- not surprising, considering it ended up being a collaboration between Christopher Doyle and Mark Lee Ping Bin. The music is unrivaled. The romanticism is just so intense. And the ending is perfection. I would have to think very hard to make this claim, but there's definitely a good chance that this is my favorite ending to any film.

Maggie Cheung and Tony Leung are, of course, as good as it gets.

For me, it's without question an A+ film.

Le Samourai is great. I found Le Cercle Rouge not to my taste though it's certainly well made. Army of Shadows is where it's at. Amazing film.

Depends on what sort of films you like to watch. Both are strong crime films with loner protagonists. Le Samourai has not been released on blu-ray by Criterion, and their blu of Le Cercle Rouge is OOP and hence may be expensive to buy.

It's widely regarded as his best film but personally I'd rank it just below Chungking Express and Happy Together (haven't seen Fallen Angels). The first half is easily the best thing he's ever done, though I found the second half too repetetive without saying anything new and not really as aestethically surprising as the first. But hey, it's Wong Kar-Wai, it's a fantastic film and you can't really go wrong with it.

I would agree with this. Well, I have seen Fallen Angels, which I think ranks below several of WKW's films. Not that it's bad, but it's just not as good as a lot of his other films.

(For the record, I've seen all of WKW's films except the Redux version of Ashes of Time.)

Criterion just recently put up an HD transfer (or about to but still made the announcement) on iTunes for Le Samourai. So if you hold off for a few months, perhaps the Flash Sale or November B&N there's a strong possibility Le Samourai will be on Blu.

An immensely beautiful film. Also, one of the most beautifully shot films ever made and one that emotionally arrests you every time. Definitely one of my all time favorites.

I'd rank it as Wong's number one, with Days of Being Wild close behind, then Fallen Angels and Happy Together behind. Then, I would place Chungking Express.

I'm the other way around on Le Samourai and Cercle Rouge. I've only seen each one once, but I found Cercle Rouge to be the more engaging of the two in a conventional way. But I reserve the right to change that opinion after seeing more of the two.

I like the tense edginess in Melville, and there are buckets of it in Army of Shadows. Totally with you on that one.
