Damn...you and I must long lost brothers or something!

I blind bought Eddie Coyle, but haven't watched it yet.

Thief is my next blind buy.

Was thinking about Don't Look Now, but had some concerns, which you've now greatly magnified.

...what didn't you like about it?

These are all just opinions of others after all. And my opinion is there is a hell of a lot more to the French Connection that makes it a great movie than the car chase. I also really dig The Friends of Eddie Coyle. I own both and really enjoy both. Different films, so saying one is better than the other is meaningless to me.
This would probably be a good time to point out that logic and rational thought have very little to do with my blind buying tendencies.

For me it's like walking into a stale Vegas casino at 2am and betting the rent money on a single hand of Black Jack.

It gives me a rush to buy a movie that I've never seen before.

...knowing I may love it or hate it.

I'm sick.

I can't comment specifically on this title but I'm not aware of a Criterion title without one, so I'd be very surprised. You may try to write them an email!

The Criterion website states that there should be essays included. I'd either return it to wherever you purchased it and get a new one, or email Criterion about it. I had a torn booklet in my copy of Modern Times, and they sent me a brand new booklet.

My copy has one. I haven't opened it yet, but I can see it clearly by looking down from the top of the Scanovo case.

My Criterion Blu-ray of The Killers has a leaflet. It's important that you notify Criterion that yours is missing, because there's a big photo of Ava Gardner on the cover.

I watched the first half of The Killers (1946) last night and I'll be watching the second half tonight. I hate breaking up movies, but the transition from my current apartment to my new townhouse is keeping me busier than normal for the next couple of weeks, and I get tired at night. I've seen this particular movie several times before, though, so it's no big deal.

The Blu-ray transfer of The Killers (1946) is a 100 different sorts of awesome when it comes to the picture quality. I'll discuss this more later, though.

My issue with Dont Look Now is that while it's described as a supernatural/horror there is very little of either element to be found. The acting was pretty good, but the story was very slow in a lot of parts. The ending was good not as great as I had read it would be. Overall I just found it a chore to get through really.

Yep, and there's about 25-30 titles in the collection that have 2K or 4K remasters in other countries, so I would suspect many of those are closer to impending release (I'm looking mostly at Closely Watched trains/Fireman's Ball, Au Husard Balthazar, Thief of Bagdad, Pickup on South Street, the Dreyer Box, possibly Scenes From a Marriage) than other DVDs that haven't been upgrade yet. But there's always surprises.

Why is that a "sickness"? Every movie anyone pays to see at the theater is a "blind buy." Difference is, you don't get to own it if you're going to the theater. Never understood the logic that some people refuse to blind buy blu-rays but are more than willing to shell out $15 to see movies at the theater. Same exact thing.

I'm thrilled for Marx Brothers and My Man Godfrey and also very happy about Winchester 73. Puzzled by Something for a Lonely Man, though. Not that I don't like it -- it's a really sweet made-for-TV Western starring Dan Blocker, but so many Universal titles needing blu-ray loving. 'Tis strange.

I bought those two titles as well and faced the same debate with Watchman. Ultimately I passed after reading a scathing review on NPR. Although I did enjoy an onion article today titled "Harper Lee announces third book titled 'My landscaper is a really nice guy and should inherit my estate'".

For theaters there is no option other than waiting, for blu rays, you can always spend less to make sure it will be worth it to you, of course you end up spending more to rent plus buy, but probably less in the long run, but in the end there is nothing wrong with any way you choose, everyone decides how much to spend in movies, and some are more cautious than others because of that.

Looking at your collection, I would have guessed you won't like "Don't Look Now"...it is definitely not the horror you would have liked

Yeah, they're the worst. Firstly, they give you like a 25% return on your investment in criterions if you're lucky. Secondly, the place I used to go to made me even more sick when they wouldn't accept a blu ray because it was Region A and they say that they don't know what that is. According to them, regions are only 1 and even when I show them a blu ray with Region A, they still don't believe me.

That's interesting...food for thought.

Let me know what you think of Eddie Coyle.

PS...thought Insomnia was good, but not great. Frankly I thought the American remake was better.

I have a pretty good relationship with the people at the shop I go to, as I go there quite frequently. But I've just kind of accepted that their business philosophy doesn't always fall in line with my opinion of what a film is worth.

I knew I could get more trying to sell here or on Ebay, but I wanted to get the money today for Ex Machina...as I've already spent more than I should have during this Criterion sale.

...that Region A story is hilarious.
