Mulholland Drive will be mine. The others I haven't seen. Kwaidan has intrigued me as of late and that cover is badass, definite blind buy. My Own Private Idaho I'm not sure if I'll like, but Reeves, Phoenix, and Van Sant helps. Even given the amount of Cronenberg I've seen, I'm still not sure if I will like The Brood (or Scanners), but it may be worth a blind buy anyway.
Re: the Mulholland Drive artwork. Not a big fan of it, I like aspects of it, but as a whole it looks kind've poorly put together. I like Watts and Harring's faces from the poster, there's something iconic about them in the poster art, but the added blur/fog filter doesn't look good. I get what they were going for, the dreamlike angle, but it looks better on the city toward the bottom, though I'm sure it was to blend them. The faces on this cover aren't as well blended as on the original poster though. I get the city is like a horizon but it separates the images awkwardly, I do like the actual inclusion of L.A. though. I like the treatment of the title. |

Cries & Whispers looks worse than the original design. I'm ok with this cover if the discarded ones were anything to go by. I would've preferred to see something along the lines of Koyaanisqatsi, Don't Look Now, or even Kwaidan. It has the right ideas, but the execution could be better. I'll mellow out about it very soon.

Haha, in a month where people can't complain about the announcments they start crying about the artwork.
Anyway, A Special Day and Kwaidan both look interesting to me, though both will probably be blind buys, I think that I will pick them up. Never was a Cronenberg or Lynch fan, but I'm happy for the large portion of you who have been hanging out for these. |

It's amazing how many people have never heard of Kwaidan before. It is spine #90, directed by a well known director (Kobayashi) and stars Nakadai in one of the stories (the snow maiden). The crazy thing is that some of the people who don't know the movie are people who i thought would because they know a lot more about movies than me.
To those not in the know, it is a wonderful movie with great atmosphere and directed superbly. A perfect haloween movie that I didn't see the upgrade coming. Also, thanks to Criterion for upgrading the older titles. |

Mulholland Drive is a TERRIFIC pick-me-up after the fizzle that was Prime Day. Truly one of my favorite movies and I cannot wait to see it in high-definition and new special features.
Also noticed the "More!" listed in the special features section - what could that be?? Last edited by monorail91; 07-16-2015 at 01:47 AM. |

So excited by Criterion's BIG announcement today. I never expected to get A Special Day from them. Awesome that they tweeted in anticipation of this. I am highly pleased.
Mastroianni and Loren re-teamed in another classic of Italian cinema. Everyone should be doing backflips over this one. One of the best performances in their careers. The cinematography is breathtaking and should look incredible in 4K. Just a great film. |
