The remake has big shoes to fill ... the original is fascinating.

El Secreto de Sus Ojos is a PHE-NOM-E-NAL film that I was fortunate enough to see in theaters and then again via the blu-ray. Both my wife and I love it.

[Show spoiler]The ending is pretty sublime. It manages to say something important (about how time we have with loved ones is both limited and fleeting) and it also happens to just be a pretty bad a$$ ending, too. ("bad a$$" used for lack of a better way to articulate on it... feeling lazy. sorry)

I'm scrolling through the movies, and I'm familiar with everything, and then I get to Killer of Sheep. I've never heard of it, and it's ranked 26th!

I can only agree with a part of that list. I mean, they put Marnie on there but not The Birds or Rear Window, both of which are vastly superior to that average movie at best. Not to mention that list is missing A Clockwork Orange, Alien, The Thing, and The Shawshank Redemption.

As for ET, I never liked the film at all. I saw it once as a kid and was bored out of my mind and have never watched it again since.

I wish Criterion would release some Charles Burnett. I've only seen Killer of Sheep and Nightjohn, but I thoroughly enjoyed both.

Nightjohn is a Hallmark movie, but it is a great little film and highly accessible. After seeing it for the first time, I immediately wanted to show it to my entire family.

Killer of Sheep vaguely feels like Cassavete's Shadows in composition (free form, loose, seemingly improvised). It feels extremely authentic (and is thus highly affecting).

Charles Burnett deserves more press than he gets (although it looks like he's getting mentioned in some circles based on that list).

yeah, see the discussion had about the importance of lists 10 pages back or so..

those anomalies should effectively serve one purpose and one purpose only - to pique your interest in Marnie. the lists mean nothing more and nothing less.

Picked up Watership Down and Limelight from Barnes & Noble and am looking forward to seeing another one of Chaplin's films that I've not yet had the pleasure of enjoying.
