Wow, in my opinion the Arrow release of Dressed to Kill bests the CC in packaging as well. Those leaflets and plain one color reverse art just seems cheap. They did the same one color (plain white) for Limelight and Tootsie. It's a shame about the issues with the new transfer, as it seems the extras are pretty stellar. It will be interesting to see if they make an official statement about it or if this is it. The thing is, I bet it sells a boat load anyway.

By looking at various other objects in the DVD Beaver screenshots it's easy to see that the Criterion is the one that is off. The globe light in the shot of Caine on the phone looks oval on the Criterion, his ID badge looks square, the wanted poster in the background in the police station...

Yeah saw that one too. The oval lamp is a dead give away its wrong.
If this wasn't a issue with production and was DePalma maybe they need to think twice about letting directors supervise the transfer.

I'm taking my 15% off coupon to Barnes and Noble today to buy Vengeance is Mine for my final blind buy purchase.

...unless anyone wants to attempt to talk me off the ledge?

Okay, so I finished watching the Three Colors trilogy last night and all I have to say is this:

I get it now!!!!

That if you watch these incredible films, then it can happen, then the miracle can happen to you!

It's not just the poor and the hungry, it's everybody's who's GOT to have this miracle! And it can happen tonight for all of you. If you believe in this Kieslowski thing, the miracle will happen and then you'll want it to happen again tomorrow. You won't be one of these bastards who says 'Kieslowski is only for art film snobs and he's a fraud'.

...He's NOT!

It can happen every day, you've just got to want that feeling. And if you like it and you want it, you'll get greedy for it! You'll want it every day of your life and it can happen to you. I believe in it now! I believe it's going to happen to me now!

I'm ready for it!!!!

And it's great!

It's a good feeling...it's really better than I've felt in a long time.

I, I, I'm ready.

although this post is to be taken, in part, in jest, I know what you're talking about. I felt the same way after seeing stuff like Ivan's Childhood, A Man Escaped, etc. it is the realization that there is SO MUCH out there to be discovered and enjoyed.

I enjoy popular releases, too, but when one of these classics works its magic on you, its like nothing else. sometimes watching the film might require a bit of effort in the form of your complete attention, patience, things like that... but when they work, there's nothing like it.

About the only thing I didn't like was the inordinate amount of grain present in both White and Red.

...there were scenes where it honestly looked as though my TV screen was covered with sand.

from Kieslowski, I've only seen The Double Life of Veronique and the first 9 films from the Decalogue. I saw Blue, but it was ages ago and I'm sure "I didn't get it." I'll see them one day, though, for sure.

Good to hear that all of the blind buys weren't a bust. Has viewing the trilogy changed your thoughts on Double Life at all?

Double Life of Veronique was the one I didn't get.

Blue seems pretty straight forward to me.

Incredibly depressing...but straightforward.

...The Decalogue is now on my bucket list.

It's an interesting question.

I'll probably have to watch it again before I answer that.

People were right when they said the Colors trilogy is more accessible.

What I liked the most was how each film had its own mood and tone.

Blue made me feel like taking a toaster oven into the bathtub...White was much more lighthearted and fun to watch...and Red was intense, but uplifting at the same time.

Now I just need to do some research/analysis on how the three films are connected thematically.

yeah, the 'depressing' part is what I focused on when I saw it some 15 years ago or so... I'm 4th generation Polish American. Where I went to school, nearly all of my friends were 2nd generation and they spoke Polish at home. my "more Polish" friend was championing Kieslowski and I was a bit of a skeptic. anyway, I wasn't much used to art films at the time and should give these another look.

A Short Film About Killing (Decalogue Episode 5) is just ridiculous... an absolute masterpiece from first frame to last.

I only saw the Three Colors trilogy one time (so far). I might change my mind upon the next viewing, but the one that hit me hardest, and my favorite, was Blue.

Love how you mixed Bill Murray's Scrooged speech into your review! Making me wish I picked it up, but I got a lot and November is not too far off!

I imagine you doing this stuff in a grocery store

"HEY! Have you tried LIFE cereal? Is it good? Should I buy it? 2% or soy? Hey! Where are you going? Help me! AHHHH!"

It has been a few years since I've seen Vengeance is Mine, but I remember being somewhat underwhelmed by it. In fact, I can barely remember it. Not that there was anything bad about it, it just hasn't stayed with me.

That's not it I just think Double is a better film. Kind of agree with myka22. It was a interesting movie and quite different then most movies of its type, but not what I consider a must have.
