Of course the Jacques Demy set showed up in the mail today....totally beat to shit. I wish they would at least use some sort of cushion or padding. It was just loose in a box twice it's size. Unfortunately there is no local B & N store to make an exchange.

Have to give you credit for picking that out. Can't say I always agree with Ray, but love his enthusiasm. It will be sad to see his downward spiral and eventual homelessness brought on by buying too many Criterion's and going broke, but I bet he will have even more crazy posts afterwards and I for one look forward to them.

It's an excellent film, one of my favorites. Really cool mix of drama and documentary. A brilliant acting performance by Ken Ogata. Also, some really dark humor that I love.

used the 20% off for Nikkatsu Noir
then a few days later (today,) I used the same code for Late Ozu
also bought An Autumn Afternoon from a different site

so I'm "all in" with the Japanese cinema now. thanks, everyone, both for the coupon codes and for enthusiastic recommendations. I'm really excited to see some of this stuff. having revisted Tokyo Story earlier this week, I'm really confident that I'll like it all!

finally got back to buying Criterions this last B&N sale

Watership Down (I did store pickup some idiot pull the dvd so I had them order me a copy)

The Bad Sleep Well [DVD-didn't think this would be a BD anytime soon]

Ozu even the dual format so I have 2 Tokyo Story DVDs now [Hell no I'm not selling any so don't ask] Love the packaging for it. Upgraded Late Spring and An Autumn Afternoon.

I am only missing one Ozu and I have all Criterion released on DVD and BD.

Eclipse Series 42: Silent Ozu—Three Crime Dramas, does this mean they might get the rest of his? I didn't know about this until after the sale since I bought only in-store this time otherwise I would have picked it up which I will do this fall I hope.

When does the B&N sale end? I don't know if I should keep my pre-order on Amazon for August 4th's release of Night and the City.

Thanks,
Tom

I didn't realize that Roger Ebert had Vengeance Is Mine on his Great Movies list.

For some reason that makes this blind buy an easier decision.

Maybe it shouldn't...but it does.

It is a worthwhile film. I liked it quite a bit. You shouldn't have buyer's remorse with the purchase.

It's gotta be Don't Look Back. Pennebaker and Bob Dylan.

The first thing that comes to my mind is "Blind Justice" since it appears to be some kind of wig like the ones used by Judges, although i don't know any movie with a title like that.

That clue makes me think of Barry Lyndon for some reason. And if its not that, I sense that picture of the man screams 18th century French Revolution or American Revolutionary War era.

A movie set in the 1700s with the powered wigs etc...and a blindfold...

Barry Lyndon is a possibility, they've got other Kubrick movies in their catalog Paths of Glory and The Killing.

Does Barry fit a blindfold in someway?
