They announced Pierrot was going OOP a month before it actually did, which allowed everyone that wanted it an ample amount of time to purchase it. Thus the demand is low right now, even though it is OOP.

You should be fine ordering it straight from Criterion. I mean they should know their stock shouldn't they .

The occasional online retailer (Deep Discount, etc.) may have them for around $26 or so.

I'm fine with 29.99.

37.99 is just WAY to much.

I got the Leopard for $18 at B and N.

It retails at $50, 50% brought it to $24.98. I used the $5 off a dvd/blu of $20 or more. This brought it to $20. 10% off for members brought it to $18 or so. I got Che for $18 as well. If I could scan the receipt, I would.

Idk, it's happened to me a few times (not with Criterion), where I've ordered something and they send me an e-mail saying it's backordered or what not.

I'm dissapointed with the supplements on Yojimbo. The white subtitles, on all the white photos are impossible for me to read.

My B&N membership expired right after the big Thanksgiving sale last year. Didn't realize it till i tried to use my card this morning. Oh well, $65.59 got me: M, Black Narcissus, and Mystery Train. None too shabby.

Can someone sum up the audio "deal" on The Leopard? Does the Italian version have Lancaster speaking italian, or is it dubbed by an Italian actor? The back cover of the movie say the American version, "features Lancasters real voice" or something like that.

In the Italian version, quite a few of the actors' voices are dubbed in Italian. Reading the booklet will tell you that some actors were speaking American, Italian, French, etc. during the shooting of the film. However, they were all later dubbed over.

The shorter "American" version does feature Lancaster's actual voice dubbed-in in English.

On larger sets with better audio set ups you can clearly see/hear that the lip movements while timed correctly aren't matched well in a lot of scenes.

I received my order I made last Monday, last Thursday (4 days) and I received my Wednesday order today (4 business days).

But I did not order any titles that said "1-2 weeks shipped" nor did I order anything that had "pre-order". Only ordered titles that had "will be shipped within 24 hours".

Criterion also posted on Facebook a few hours ago:

Eighteen Zatoichi films plus FOR ALL MANKIND. Keep your eyes peeled for more soon!

The way to avoid waiting for shipping is to call your BN and ask to order the film(s). This way the films will be available on release date with the store's stock.

I've heard a lot of complaints about the cases and I'm just wondering about the reasons why some of you don't like them. Is it purely aesthetic? The lack of clear case symmetry in your collection? Or something else, disc protection, etc.

I'm okay with the 400 Blows case, it does has a few dings on the corners from shipping. Will most of you want the clear case for the upcoming Seven Samurai or is packaging similar to the remastered dvd, which I love, okay for you?
OCD runs rampant among Blu-ray collectors. There's nothing wrong with the cardboard cases, just personal preference.

Because they are very thin, flimsy and frankly they suck. I don't have a problem with the By Brakhage and The Leopard cases either. Those are solid quality. Nothing like their original digipak Blu-Ray "cases."

I ordered three movies on 7/13/10 & one arrived yesterday. The other two have shipped so they should be here today or tomorrow.

Picked up "Pandora's Box" and "The Naked City." I also got a new copy of "Fallen Idol" off Ebay at a very reasonable price. A good haul.

I think it's a little bit of all those things plus the fact that digipak cases are notoriously flimsy and easily damaged.

Criterion's blu-rays are all going to be in clear cases from now on unless it's a film with multiple discs ala the Stan Brakhage set, The Leopard, etc. If it's a box set that contains more than one individual film, it will be a box slip case with two separate clear cases within, like the Montery Pop box set, Yojimbo & Sanjuro box set, or the Che box set.

Seven Samurai will more than likely be a clear case since it looks to be a one disc set, but retaining all of the features of the epic 3 disc restored version from a couple years ago. This of course, is because it's possible to put the entire film in a blu-ray transfer plus all the special features on one disc due to the huge capacity of a BD.

Off topic, but did anyone see Inception this weekend? I've seen it 3 times now and I thought it was a masterstroke of cinema. That Christopher Nolan could take a high concept studio tent-pole summer blockbuster and turn it into his most personal film yet is something of a miracle. I'm so glad we have auteurs like Nolan working today who are able to bridge the gap between cinephiles and mainstream average movie-goers so well.
