Definitely in for this! Not seen any of these but I hope they are as good as his movies from the 50's.

I'm definitely interested in the Apu Trilogy (though, with the price, I figured we would've gotten a fourth disc, but oh well), Ikiru, and In Cold Blood. I'll have to read In Cold Blood first, though; it surprisingly was never something I had to read for school.

Wondering if I should wait for Criterion to release Lady Snowblood, or if I should get the Arrow BD. I doubt there will be any other difference in picture quality.

That's kind of my position too ... although I'm definitely not going to rule out buying them again from Criterion. It depends on how much improvement there is to the picture/audio, and also on what the new supplements are.

Some nice specials on Don't Look Back for Dylan fans...
I wonder if Criterion will ever release No Direction Home. Not sure if this helps or hurts the possibility.

Already preordered The Apu Trilogy and Ikiru. Both are worth the high price.

Although I'll be keeping my copies of the Sony Pictures blu-ray and DVD releases (which I repackaged into a two-disc blu-ray case), I'm most excited about In Cold Blood because of all the supplements. The Sony releases were pretty much bare bones. I do wish Criterion had scored an interview with actor Scott Wilson, but that's a minor quibble.

I'm also thrilled about The Apu Trilogy, which didn't play here (probably because we don't have a theatre close by!). The way my Barnes & Noble allows me to stack coupons, I'm calculating that I'll probably be able to pick it up for between $24 and $32 during the half-off sale.

I'll eventually pick up the other titles ... interesting that Code Unknown is the only November blu-ray release that isn't a 4K restoration. I was kind of surprised that we're not getting The New World in time for Thanksgiving ... that seemed kind of an obvious November pick for me.

Congratulations to everyone who is getting something they were hoping for! Now we can all relax until the next newsletter clue comes out two weeks from now!

These are great November (November Sale!) announcements to come home to.

I knew that there was a good reason why I've procrastinated with buying the existing Blu-ray of In Cold Blood. Woo hoo!

Count me in as well for Ikiru and The Apu Trilogy.

Don't Look Back is seriously stacked. Same for In Cold Blood. It is hard to get an idea from the Criterion page, but my only quibble is that The Apu Trilogy supplements seem slight for such a major release. But that's a minor quibble because I'm thrilled to have the films.

A minor quibble for sets like Apu Trilogy is that you're never able to purchase the films individually. Yes, Aparajito and Apur Sansar are good, but they're not on the same level for me as Pather Panchali and I really don't feel the need to own them as well.

Ikiru

Such a great film.

"How tragic that man can never realize how beautiful life is until he is face to face with death."

Might be a little slow for some younger audiences, but it's such a life affirming film.

A story about a man who must come to terms with a terminal disease finds some happiness and purpose. There are some things you can't change, you have to accept them and continue to live.

You don't have to let bad news or where you are in life keep you down. No matter what has happened in the past, you can still be happy.

Just buy as a replacement from Criterion if they do that? Like just say you lost a disc and want to buy it and then put in a standard case with artwork you printed.

(Not sure they offer disc purchases by themselves but can't see why not)
