The cover for True Story from Sony is also kind of reminescent of both too

Great lineup-in for all four of the new additions.

So given the abundance of titles from the drawing or confirmed from other sources, I'm assuming a bunch will be released in 2016 instead since December is usually fairly light? Because I find it hard to believe that New World, Llewyn Davis (maybe this isn't coming out after all?), Lady Snowblood, and Speedy will all come in December? (it would be pretty sweet if they all did, though.

Meanwhile, with the Janus Wenders retrospective starting up next week, I'm hoping 2016 puts Criterion on a Wenders bender (box set perhaps?)

I would have loved to have seen the cover use or adopt the style of Ray's own storyboards for the films.

Might have been very interested in this as a potential blind buy a few weeks ago.

Then I went on the epic bender of all blind buying benders during the recent sale and most of them turned out to be relative duds.

...I vowed no more Criterion blind buys after that.
Well when you inevitably backpedal on this vow, be sure to pick up the Apu trilogy. It's a good blind buy.

“Never having seen a Satyajit Ray film is like never having seen the sun or the moon.”
—Akira Kurosawa

They got a lot of mileage out of that card.

I've only seen Ray's Charulata, but I adored it so I'm pretty pumped to blind-buy The Apu Trilogy come November.

They also have the ability to come out in January or February. The 2016 New Year's Drawing will begin to cover new things for March, so it is possible to see some of those films in the first two months of 2016, as we wont have the new drawing yet.

Ah I didn't think about that! I always assumed it was just within that calender year.

Or even later than that. For instance the clue for Eraserhead was in the 2013 New Year's drawing, but it didn't come out til September 2014. I'm sure there are other examples that have an even longer time between clue and release.

Edit: Y Tu Mama Tambien was in the 2012 drawing, and was released August 2014

Finally Ikiru , been waiting for that upgrade for years.

Will also be picking The Apu Trilogy, although i hope they still have some more extras under their sleeve since it appears to be a 3 disc only release for $100 MSRP, i guess i am spoiled since the Three Colors trilogy was stacked with extras and was still $80 MSRP

Wouldn't be much of a problem but unfortunately this year the current exchange rate for MXN->USD makes all the prices around 25% higher than last year

Can't wait for Ikiru, but I have to say I'd rather have gotten Stray Dog. I feel this film would benefit the most from a new restoration and transfer. The current CC DVD is extremely muddled and soft and the audio is in need of some work as well.

In Cold Blood is another must have for me.

Never seen the other films, but Code Unknown seems like a no brainer to me.
The dvd PQ for Ikiru is horrendous imo.

...definitely needed the upgrade.

For November I'm definitely in for Ikiru and In Cold Blood. Ikiru is a long-desired upgrade!

Yeah I know. But I also remember IFC confirming that Criterion would release the bluray in the U.S very soon since Paramount decided to do a DVD only release , damn them!

DVD-only releases in 2015 is a slap in the face. Why even bother?

I don't recall the very soon bit, just that it would eventually happen. Hard to imagine Paramount would go through the cost and trouble to release it unless they had exclusive rights to it in the territory for at least a year. Also hard to imagine Criterion would release it on blu-ray only, so when they do it there will also be a competing (and one would assume superior) dvd version as well.

Missed the announcements yesterday since I had much work to do and much stress that I totally forgot about it.
That's Ok, becuase I see nothing is of interest to me.

I was especially disappointed that the ? clue was not referring to either Missing or Young and Innocent.

I was just thinking that maybe Criterion goes by the Chinese calendar, as their new year starts in February or March of every year. Perhaps they've created a new calendar, the "Criterion Calendar"!
