I own the Potemkin set, which is probably my favourite box-set that I own - I just hope more people can discover him.

Much like Rivette, Rohmer seems strangely overlooked in the collection. Here's hoping they remedy this in the future, possibly upgrading their DVD set or bringing out other films of his. Luckily other labels have released or started to release their work.

Highway 61 Revisited is his masterwork, although he's made a lot of great albums over the years.

The fact of the matter is that the majority of the people posting here could be consider BOTH 'film snobs' AND 'hipsters'. There's a tendency to overreact to every opinion that seems contrarian to our own personal ones. This tendency tends to dissipate with age anyway.

For me, as long as I feel like the person shows that at least he or she is not 'posing', then I'm fine with the occasional contrarian opinion. (For the record, I define posers as people who clearly DON'T know what they're talking about, not just people who state a contrarian opinion.) I'd say 90% of the people I know--friends and family--don't have the same tastes as I do in cinema so you start to learn to accept certain opinions like when non-cinema geek people think The Departed is Martin Scorsese's best movie...

He characterization and dialogue is usually spot on. The use of music is in all the right places. And really, along with Kurosawa, they're the only directors who've managed to make films that are highly entertaining but are technically flawless.

I agree. All of us could be 'considered' (that being the key word) by a large portion of society as "film snobs."

I've been called both a hipster and a snob on this very site. ( Lucky me, right?!) In fact, I was once christened Darth Hipster on another thread. ..and on this thread, I am a snob because I don't think foreign films should be watched with an English language overdub. and my best buddy calls me a "hipster doofus" because he knows I like a lot of foreign and non-mainstream films.

when we have company lunches and people are talking about movies, I have nothing to say because I haven't seen most of the films they are talking about. I do have a color printout of CC's artwork of Pierrot Le Fou up on my desk. Nobody here has the faintest idea who Jean Luc Godard is. Nobody's asked about it. Nobody cares. ...and that's fine.

what about Jarvis Cocker, Damon Albarn, Paul Weller, Noel Gallagher, Alex Turner? the last 30 years of music from England has been ignored.

I think that if you like any other genre outside of American pop music, you can rattle off a half dozen egregious omissions.

These lists are always missing somebody who should be there or including somebody who shouldn't be there, but when I did a brief Google search of other similar lists, Dylan seems to be at the top more often than not. And if not, he's always high on the list.

The poster for Burroughs: The Movie has been on the site for months now but no Blu-ray release has been announced yet.

Furthermore, I believe Criterion said they were waiting for the theatrical run to finish before releasing it on home video.
