Not necessarily...I "pre-ordered" Black Narcissus and asked it to be shipped to the store. I was "told" I would be able to pick it up on the release date. THAT is only if they receive it on the release date. My local B & N got the DVD but NOT the BD...I wasted a trip to the store, though I "should" get it by the week's end.

Michael Bay is in there as well. Criterion has to make money from the masses at some point.

But, don't you think you could've saved that trip to the store by calling ahead first... like I did? Just saying...

We talked about Bay being in it last night, that's why I made that post just now to add Smith.

Given the ongoing B&N sale, and they waited over three weeks last month before doing so ... wonder when they'll post pre-orders for Oct BD's on Amazon.

Well, the pre-orders for "Seven Samurai" and "The Darjeeling Limited" have been up for a while now... it's just the other three we have to wait on at this point.

I agree. Kevin Smith has never really been mainstream enough to really be an "it" director. Clerks and Clerks II are two of my favorite movies but most of his other work I really hated.

Yeah, I grabbed Seven Samurai along with TTRL and Antichrist when they first surfaced on AMZN. I'm watching out for Paths of Glory, possibly House.

You might get it/shipped today...had my Black Narcissus shipped to the store and it showed up today and not on the release date.

Since Roman Polanski's "Repulsion" was added to CC, is there's any reason to believe "Rosemary's Baby" or "Chinatown" may be next?

There wouldn't be any reason to believe that based on Repulsion. But, if they could get the rights, that would be cool.

Just called B&N about the 2 new releases not shipping. They said the pre-orders are shipping today, obviously including mine. I placed mine on the 1st day of the sale, so you may want to call and check as their website is usually pretty vague.

OK, I have been doing some serious research and looking around at Criterions library of films.

I have discovered that there are 46 out of print DVDs, 2 out of print BDs, and 150 Out of print Laser discs!

I don't even have a laser disc player.

Also, the cost of collecting the entire Criterion library (including the OOP titles) would be insane!!!

It looks like my dreams of collectiong the entire Criterion library have been dashed by some fact finding. You would either have to devote all of your disposable income (and time to track down some older titles) or be extremely wealthy in order for that to be a realistic goal. Oh well, it was fun researching what I did, and I did happen to pick up a few new titles last night anyway.

I suppose the best way would be to limit what the collection would contain. Such as just collect the box sets, BD titles, the OOP BD titles, or just the specific titles I would have bought weather or not they were Criterion releases.

I think a combo of the last two choices is probably what I will end up going with.

I own a laserdisc player and have several Criterion LaserDiscs, I usually stick to the titles that are hard to find that contain commentary tracks, such as TAXI DRIVER (there is a specific CAV edition of Taxi Driver that contains the commentary track) Not all versions carry it.

I have to say the one commentary track that was the biggest let down and I 'm sorry to say a waste of time was a commentary recorded for CARRIE on the CAV laser. It just wasn't very informative, maybe it is because it was recorded before the information super highway internet age perhaps.
