I've heard a lot of people say that about The Leopard. Guess I got lucky. My copy from B&N was in perfect condition.

As much as I like JGL, Michael Shannon as the Riddler would be great.

This is where I lay down the law:

Recast the Joker!

Michael Shannon - Riddler - Main Villain

JGL - Joker - minor/comeback Villain (Just to keep the story going)

Marion Cotillard - Catwoman - love interest/good-bad villain role

There. Awesome movie.

Imo, this movie boils down to a good looking, high concept, mediocre action flick. I didn't leave the theater questioning dreams or reality, or feeling like I just went to an interesting place. I didn't feel as though I needed to see it again to deconstruct it, like so many other people have said they want to do. To be honest, I was just kind of happy it was over.

There were all those really good actors, and they had NOTHING to do. They spent the entire film basically being tour guides for the audience, as all their lines were used to try and explain this world that Nolan created. A world which I found to be extremely boring. He tried to hide the fact that the story and characters were so thin by using all this dream/subconscious talk, but he did not pull it off.

There was no emotional core to the film. I guess there was supposed to be one, but I thought it felt extremely flat and lifeless. I cared nothing for any of the characters on the screen. Dreams are supposed to be personal and emotional. All I saw was slow motion explosions and mid air gunfights.

This was a good idea that was poorly executed. I guess there are worse ways you can spend your 10 bucks at the movie theater, but for all the love and hype this movie is getting, I was very disappointed. Am I crazy? Can someone please tell me what I'm missing?
Agree 100%. People are fooled into thinking its "intelligent" because it confuses them, when really it's all dumbed down exposition in a dream land where nothing very imaginative happens.

Back to Criterion.

Gawd no. Please do NOT recast The Joker. It's completely unnecessary. Just have a scene where Batman is at Arkham and he walks by a cell where you hear the Joker laughing. There you go, a nice tribute but dont mess with Ledger's character.

After looking up Michael Shannon I remember him from Revolutionary Road. I really did not like that film but he was absolutely terrific as the nutcase. I could definately see him as a villain.

Cotillard would also be great for a female villain.

My copy from the B & N store is a little dinged on the top edge...can't see any damage on either facing side or bottom, so I will probably just deal with it...though the anal part of me wants to exchange it.

You could probably contact Criterion for a replacement case.

Just watched "Ride With The Devil" what a great Civil War film, I could even put up with Jewel being in it!

I have a problem with recasting the Joker like Nolan has problem with it. It's kind of wrong. Let the performance remain immortalized by Heath. It would just be awkward and feel icky to recast it. I understand the fanboy desire in all of us fellow Bat-geeks to see joker continue his on-screen antics, but I feel really icky about it after Heath's passing. Let this now iconic and masterful performance be forever immortalized by what is on screen in TDK. A mention of the character is all that's needed, no appearances please.

the discs are the same, but the box set is cheaper than buying them individually. so unless you already opened them id return them and get the box (unless 5 bucks isnt worth the hassle for you).

I noticed that some of the print of the pages (4-5 & 30-32) of my Stagecoach blu booklet seems to be at an angle and not in straight line, is this the way the booklet was intended to look?

His "easily" watchable IMO:

Band Of Outsiders
Masculin féminin
Breathless
Vivre sa vie
A Woman Is a Woman
Alphaville (though prob the others first)
Thanks Bud!

So far...I think I like Breathless and my wife prefers Vivre Sa Vie. Both films were very watchable.

A Woman Is A Woman is also streamable, so that will be next on the list.

I like that Jean-Paul Belmondo kept trashing the French throughout Breathless.

There's a copy in my local B & N, but I hear a thunking when shaking it...with my luck, there will be hidden damage inside.

Mine is minimally dinged...I'll live with it.

Came home this evening to find an e-mail from B&N saying that The Black Narcissus had shipped. Now all I'm lacking is The Red Shoes. The two movies I was unsure of when I went on my buying spree were The Red Shoes and Everlasting Moments. If Red Shoes is half as good as Everlasting Moments, I'll be estatic.

I am all psyched. I was finally able to score a "like new" "Nights of Cabiria" on Ebay. A lot cheaper than Amazon market place.

No prob. If you can watch Band of Outsiders as well, it is very fun to watch.
