I came across a used copy at a bookstore near me the other day for $55, but the cover was so badly yellowed I had to pass.

I re-watched Yi Yi yesterday and found it to be just as beautiful as the first viewing, if not moreso. Few films capture the true cycle of life as well. I'm not one for big lists, but if I made one, this would be near the top of films from 2000-present.

But it made me think of A Brighter Summer's Day. I think we can all agree that it is coming someday, either standalone or as part of a WCF set. The question is when. Any speculation? I'm thinking either or early or mid-way 2016, but it is basically a guessing game at this point.

For me it worked as an exercise in style. A film doesn't necessarily have to have some sort of emotional enrichment to be enjoyable. I had a great time watching it & I know I'll certainly be watching it again in the future.

I wanted an ending that hinted at how their interactions had affected them or changed the course of their lives after the fadeout.
It would have been a lesser film.

Zabriskie Point is one of my all time favorites.

I think its a beautiful release, but the matiarals don't really work for a bluray, over time the wear and tear will be awful from pulling off the shelf.

I keep mine on a separate shelf in sleeves to protect it and also have the plastic case for them.

I do love this release but its not the best use of materials lol

I agree that the ending of Don't Look Now was a little contrived, but I didn't find it predictable at all.
[Show spoiler]I was expecting "the reveal" to turn out to be something intangible, either supernatural or psychological.
At any rate, the performances of Julie Christie and Donald Sutherland worked for me and made the film a satisfying experience overall.

Looks like digi. Actually looks like thin digi, but I am guessing that look is deceiving.

No thanks. The appeal of steelbooks consistantly eludes me.

You should check out The Terrorizers by the same director. One of my all-time favourites.

Funny/sad, my Last Year at Marienbad Blu-ray and my Three Films by Hiroshi Teshigahara box set have both yellowed. The only two white/white-ish digis that have yellowed.

Please Criterion you are spoiling us!!

Oh also, removable film title - thats new, and will make a few happy here (I sol think it looks odd without it) . Why can't Criterion do more digipaks, they look stunning.

That;s because it is uncoated stock, which does look nice and feels great, but does deteriorate quicker which sucks when its OOP lol

If both sets were a coated stock it wouldn't feel or look as good, and would look cheap.

That makes me sad. All the other Andersons are plastic except Mr. Fox (which will hopefully change to plastic when its no longer duel). My OCD is going to trip out bad lol

How is that OCD? and if it bothers you that much, just scan artwork in and reprint and put in a plastic case - problem solved lol.

A Time to Live and a Time to Die is fantastic. One of the greatest coming-of-age films I've ever seen.

I am so frustrated that I can't buy it from the current Eureka sale.
We have capital controls in Greece, and while in some cases payments to abroad get through just by luck (i was able to purchase through Amazon and B&N), this time it didn't through worldpay that they accept.

edit: Oh, I'm sorry! I thought you were talking about A Time to love and a Time to die!
(and I was wondering about that "coming of age" comment)

Glad to hear! I didn't know beforehand that all three films are apart of his so-called "coming of age" trilogy, so now my plan is to view that before I delve into his later work - or I may just work chronologically with what I can find.
