How do you arrange your Criterion titles? I keep all mine on as shelf by themselves and normally I arrange them by spine number, but I ran into a problem today. I added the Gregory/Shawn set into my collection, but the three films don't have sequential spin numbers. So now I have to think of a new arrangement. Should I arrange them by date, alphabetical, by director, or split up the set and continue with the spine numbers?

It's a little irritating, my other sets all have sequential spine numbers.

I arrange mine alphabetically, by title. I think you're going to run into more numerical problems if you purchase the David Lean Directs Noel Coward set and possibly some others.

Random tidbit unrelated to Criterion...

I met William Shatner at a Wizard Con show Friday night here in Pittsburgh. It's rare for that actor to visit here and being such a longtime fan of Captain Kirk and Star Trek, it was really cool to get a photo op with him. My mother had written a little letter sealed in an envelope for me to give him and as soon as it was my turn for the photo, I gave him the envelope and said "this is from my mom"! He smiled and replied: "Well, I hope there's money in it!". I gave him a handshake and wished him happy new year also. All within a span of 10-15 seconds. I paid $80 for that photo op, but hey, the man is 84 years old and I had to jump at the opportunity. Woohooo!

My 10 favorite horror films are:

John Carpenter's The Thing
The Shining
An American Werewolf in London
Let Me In
Village of the Damned
Alien
Rosemary's Baby
The Abominable Dr. Phibes
Psycho
Poltergeist
(Tobe Hooper)

OK, make that 11:

The Blob (Love both versions. Only the first has Steve McQueen, though, so it wins out)

These two sets aren't alike, though. David Lean Directs Noël Coward has a spine number for the set (#603), as well as the titles in it (#604, #605, #606, #76), so it should be shelved under the set's spine number.

The Gregory/Shawn set, however, doesn't have its own spine number, so it's up in the air where it should be shelved. I don't have a copy, but if I did, I'd probably shelve it as #762, the number for The Master Builder.

Extended is better, but there are several "extended" versions.
