Apparently it was discussed on Karagarga a while ago (here's where I saw it first mentioned). Since I'm a big fan and Lana's new album is out this week, I have my fingers quixotically crossed for an announcement today, though it seems unlikely that such a thing will ever happen.

Frances Ha is an IFC title, so it was sort of a given.

Mistress America is Fox Searchlight, so unless they have something akin to a Wes Anderson relationship with Baumbach, it will still be a while out after the Fox disc.

why be pissed? do you know if it was something that was being considered?

at least it is getting a Blu-ray release. so many films won't ever see the light of day on Blu-ray. the more I explore the TSPDT top 1000 list, the more depressing that reality becomes.

I'm not really looking forward to it, but I think Jellyfish Eyes is definitely going to be announced for December today. Personally I'm hoping for Barton Fink and Short Cuts.

That's what I'm hoping to avoid. Like many UK titles if you wait too long they become OOP, but really prefer getting mostly region A titles if I can help it. Then again I've been amazed how after all this time some films like Passion of Joan of Arc, that underwent huge restoration efforts and made the film circuits, still have yet to be announced. I guess like most Americans won't watch foreign movies (who wants to read a movie )they also don't like good movies as well since classics apparently don't sell well.

As far as Tales of Hoffman, which underwent a new 4k restoration, that is one of the titles StudioCanal took away from Criterion so I doubt we will see a region A release. Along with many other titles in that list that have UK releases like Port of Shadows, Forbidden Games, Peeping Tom, The Fallen Idol, & Le jour se lève.

My holy grail is Le Corbeau ( The Raven). One of my favorite films. Would love to see a Bluray of it in my lifetime.

Of course I should actually buy the Alfred Hitchock CC Blu-rays before requesting more of them. Otherwise I wouldn't be able to catch up!
TSPDT - They Shoot Pictures Don't They
it is a list of 1000 films that aggregated a lot of different "important" 'best of' lists. great list for getting ideas about what to explore next.

http://www.theyshootpictures.com/gf1000.htm

I would always welcome more Hitch, but speaking to my previous point, we've got north of 25 titles on Blu-ray already.

American society at large is no different than any other country. Your average person in Italy, England, where ever, doesn't want to read subtitles either.

Are you absolutely sure about that? I was under the impression that these were all titles that were still pretty much inevitable BD upgrades for Criterion eventually.

Lionsgate has the rights to those films now and they haven't released a single one of them for years.

Those are all titles in the list Criterion published back when Studiocanal took the rights away for their now defunct region 'A' lionsgate/studiocanal collection. I'm assuming the rights have not returned to Criterion since they have said numerous times that if they do those titles will go back into print.

I know people are going to grow tired of this broken record, but a couple of years ago BFI restored the Hitchock 9 (His earliest surviving Films). The films went on the film festival tour, but no Bluray has been announced in the UK or here to my knowledge. Been wanting someone to release this. Seems like a perfect candidate for Bluray release.

I would love to see atleast The Lodger on Bluray. As far as Suspicion. That is with Warners who are sitting on a ton of great unreleased titles while they trickle out a few here and there. Releasing The Great Race while sitting on Key Largo, The Big Sleep, The Philadelphia story and tons of other great classics. Really wish Warners would just give up already and let Boutique labels release these classic titles. Imagine a Criterion release of The Big Sleep. Though Warners is releasing a few classic titles here and there with Murder, My Sweet out today, but at this rate we will never see many of the A-list titles they are sitting on.

I suppose Othello should be announced today as it was said to be released "Fall 2015" but you never know because of the people that handle Welles' affairs.

I'm hoping for them to announce their first UHD-BD titles in dual-format releases.

There was a comment or two on Facebook speculating that they'd delay announcements a day in view of William Becker's death. We'll see.

Since Criterion cofounder William Becker just recently passed away and their website has some tributes to him, I'm thinking that they may delay the announcements? Seems to be a sombre time at their offices.

I thought they might delay due to his death also... but I would have thought they would have posted it on FB or Twitter.

Becker would want the announcements.
