I'm mostly sad that this means one less fall/winter month that I can be watching Inside Llewyn Davis in dazzling high definition whilst drinking coffee spiked with whiskey.
Still, 2015 has been a terrific year, my favorites being:
And haven't seen em, but certainly looking forward to The Apu Trilogy and Jellyfish Eyes (if it's anything like Hausu, as others on the forum say, I'm probably gonna love it). |

The Apu Trilogy and Mulholland Dr are definitely on my Christmas Wish List.
The December releases are a little disappointing, maybe check out Burroughs and Downhill Racer. Pales in comparison to last December (Safe, Time Bandits, Night Porter); and can't hold a candle to their slate in December 2012 (Brazil, Qatsi Trilogy, Purple Noon, Following) |

Not sure if this has been brought up, but has anyone noticed the new supplements for Moonrise Kingdom aren't as extensive based on Beaver review? I already have the previous edition, and as much as I like the new digipak, I think I will have to pass on this release to put that money on other Criterion disc.
I mean the whole point of the Criterion blu-ray when the Transfer is already great, is to add a lot of supplements like in the Mr. Fox release, the one that seems to be the best extra is the commentary but I hardly have time for those. Well I guess I will still consider it in the future if I ever run out of Criterion blus to buy ![]() |

Finally saw the December titles.
No complaints here...I expected a "down" month for sure. I'm thrilled that Downhill Racer is getting a blu-ray upgrade. I bought the DVD a year or two ago and quite enjoyed this film. It will look really good in HD now with all that sharp film grain... and powder (from the snow). Perfect winter title if I must say. The Burroughs documentary film looks like an instant blind-buy for me because I've always been a fan of his. The other two are possibilities, as I own all the Harold Lloyd films in the Criterion Collection, and Speedy looks like a good one...and Jellyfish Eyes might warrant a screening first. It's been an amazing year for Criterion releases and I'm looking forward to January's announcements next month. ![]() |

In fact, I don't mind Criterion being the 2nd release of any studio DVD. Only when a film has been released and then constantly re-released do I think it would be a bother. Like if they did Monty Python and the Holy Grail. Edit: just remembered that it was Dave Van Ronk that was THE inspiration but Ochs was a peripheral inspiration. That would be tremendous. I probably didn't make my point well, especially since i got the inspiration wrong, but there are a lot of Criterionesque things they could do to shed light on Village Folk culture.
