I know it isn't quite as "exciting" as the current flash sale, but it's quite the unexpected tragedy.
If the Guardian obit is to be believed, then the manner of her death is quite shocking. I certainly would be devastated if something I put my heart and soul in was very badly received, and I'm not even someone who has a history of depression.

EDIT: Seeing more reactions and giving this a 2nd thought, I agree with those criticizing the obits trying to connect her suicide with how her most recent film was received. It does seem very irresponsible for them to report it like that.

I would like to get more, but I pre-ordered everything available from Amazon thru November titles. Plus, I'm picking up as many deals as possible thru eBay to add titles.

Too bad the flash sale isn't applicable to pre-orders. I would rather pay in toward my $50 Criterion gift certificate.

How long do they normally take to ship? I'm in the US until next Wednesday and this would be the first time I'd be able to get something from this sale... egged on by that ten bucks I have sitting there

14 October? You'll likely* be fine; in my experience things come to my door with surprising speed.

*But who knows--it could vary depending on where "here" is.

Grabbed the Zatoichi set. Been wanting it forever but other things got in the way. The stars finally lined up for this sale. Can't wait to dive into these.

That is some ridiculous value. If only the Kurosawa box set hadn't been DVD-only; I would have liked to get my hands on it.

Got Fear And Loathing for $15.92.
Turns out I've got TWO accounts set up !?!?
I've got an e mail in to them, asking if they can combine the two.

I changed e mail addresses two years ago, and I'm still having complications ?

I second Paths of Glory and if you are a fan or horror go for Devil's Backbone..

If you're only getting one, I'd say Seven Samurai. Great film and Criterion's release is a stellar overall package.

I need to narrow this list down to three or four titles for the halloween season. Please feel free to suggest:
[Show spoiler]Devil's Backbone
Diabolique
Eyes Without A Face
Island Of Lost Souls
Night Of The Hunter
Repulsion
Seconds

If you think there's something I'm missing, please feel free to mention. Huge fan of bizarre, insane, creepy, disturbing, etc.

Not really feeling anything right now as the B&N sale is right around the corner. I guess I'll for the $15 films. What are your opinions on:

Summer Interlude
The Ballad of Narayama
The Organizer

I'm not familiar with any of Chantal Akerman's movies, but the Guardian article still breaks my heart. So sad.

Hi Owl,

The Eclipse set is actually a very good package.

Eclipse Series 19: Chantal Akerman in the Seventies DVD

Absolutely. If you like Horror that subtle and not over the top, you'll love this film.

I hate hearing that she was tormented to the point to take her own life. We studied Jeanne Dielman in college and I meant to visit her other work. Just purchased her Eclipse in today's flash sale.

RIP to a great artist!
