Just finishing watching Walkabout, what an incredible piece of filmaking! I did notice one thing though, there is a strange quick buzzing sound when the boy says "Ask him for water!". Is this part of the film or is my copy bad?

Of my records, my fav of mine is the original album of The Doors - L.A. Woman with the yellow paper sleeve with the crucifix. It's pretty cool. I wish I can find the original (have the record, just not the original) Velvet Underground & Nico album with the Sticker still on it for a good price.
I like my "PinkPop" ediiton of Porcupine Tree's "Fear of a Blank Planet", it's limited to only 500 copies worldwide. I have some things that are more rare than that, but it always comes to mind.
As for CDs, I'm a huge Smashing Pumpkins fan, I have an official copy of Machina II: The Friends and Enemies of Modern Music, issued from Q101 in Chicago. A friend of mine's uncle worked at the station and got me one. Limited to 101 copies, it's nigh impossible to find a true copy of it with all the bootlegs that were made. I also have the entire 20th Anniversay tour boxset, it's 50discs.

I wonder what that Smashing Pumpkins would be worth.

I'm a music collector - I can't remember the last time I counted my CDs, but I'm probably at close to a 1000. I don't have much vinyl - just a few things that aren't available on CD.

Hmm, you might have beat me on the cd count. I haven't counted, but I'm sure you got me.

But what's weird is I like music prob more than films, but I own like 4 to 1 movies to music.

I like music more too, but I find it's harder to enjoy music on an intellectual level so my music collection is a lot less diverse than my film one. My music collection is more focused on particular things that strike me emotionally, and probably lacks many of the "classics" that don't - whereas I find film easier to appreciate from an academic standpoint even if it doesn't hit me hard on that emotional level.

While I have probably close to a 1000 CDs, huge segments of my collection are made up of single artists that I just want everything by (albums obviously, but also EPs, CD singles if they have b-sides, live albums, rarities collections, etc.)

I'm at around 850 CDs and maybe 450 dvds, 60 or so blu ray. I'm going to start to sell some of my cds though. Most valuable is the 3 cd set "Secret Box" by the Chills. Apparently only 500 were printed and I've seen it on ebay for $400.

In general I think it's best to sell OOP media while you can. There's always a good chance it will be reissued later on. Wish I had sold my non-anamorphic dvd of Re-Animator back in 1999 for $75. Now it's worth jack shit.

While I somewhat agree (about the film part anyway), I feel like music can be on the same intellectual level as films, and prob more so. But then again, I do own some experimental or avant-garde music, while I don't really own alot of the Beatles (sorry guys. Not my 60's band.).

But I do get where you are going. And I do blind buy more movies than music, based off of "artistic merit" and other things.

It is prob best to sell OOP stuff while you can, but I have a hard time letting go of my films. Even things I ask myself why I bought in the first place.

Vinyl, yeah.
Also band t-shirts, if that counts under some sort of sub category of music collecting.

I would say my taste in music is more specific than my taste in movies. I could probably live happily for the rest of my life with the 150+ reggae, ska, rocksteady CDs, 50+ classic jazz records, plus maybe 30 other CDs of various genres (60's French Pop, 90's Hip Hop, 00's Indie). I think I've only added maybe 5 pieces total to my music collection in the last year. I can't say that about my movie collection, but I guess that total is boosted right now because of getting a new setup that makes me enjoy watching movies at home.

My music collection is larger than my movie collection. But with that being said, the majority of the music is supplied to me by record labels.

As for how much in the collection...I have many thousands but...when you listen to so much, it's like sensory overload. I enjoyed those years in my life when I went to a music store, purchased one or two albums and listened to it for weeks, months, years. But now I get so much...that it's something I listen to in my car or on computer and you keep moving on to the next album, next single... and sometimes you find some gems, but often you get albums that start to sound the same.

In fact, here is how many unopened or review CD's I have in my office floor right now... Granted, some of these are CD's for media kits for bands or artists from labels from various parts of the world who send me product for consideration for interviews or reviews...

But when it comes to music, it's the same thing of how I enjoy films. I prefer to listen to music from all over the world and if anything, that's what makes things a bit cool that I can easily go from listening to something from the US to Japan to France to Australia to the UK to Korea, etc.

I listen to everything, various genres.

As for vinyls, I do have a lot...mainly from my father's collection which I have kept in storage. A lot of rock and disco, so I don't really touch it nor do I have a record player anymore.

Let's say, I've gone through several iPods and various MP3 players.

yep.... there it is.... Deviant acts occur yet again in the 13th state of the Union.....

EDIT:

As far as music goes..... I have about 800 CDs, but will fully admit that they are only from a handful of bands...... about 350 or so is from The Grateful Dead, and I have about 200 or so cassette tapes of them also..... but many are duplicates of CDs I have, and obviously most of it is live recordings.

I have the same one, still sealed. (Never bothered opening it, since I already got the regular vinyl and the limited marbled vinyl). When it comes to Porcupine Tree, I try to get more or less everything vinyl-related when it comes out, because it sells out fairy quickly, and within in short times the price is usually 4-10 times higher.

The PinkPop edition went for around $160 on eBay recently.
