random question... is criterion going to release inland empire? and if not, who is? I'm really interested in seeing it but atm it doesn't have a north american release...? seeing as criterion is releasing muholland drive soon, I was thinking it would make sense for them to also bring out inland but i have no idea why it's just not already released...

Region-free German set with Inland Empire, Lost Highway and Mulholland Drive is like $30.00 -- and worth it.

Made a huge dent this sale in getting blu-ray complete. That $50 gift certificate kept hanging out there so I bumped up my titles to use it.

My final flash haul:
Charulata
Still Walking
Certified Copy
The Big City
Lola Montès
Summer Hours
The Makioka Sisters
Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence
Lonesome
Blind Chance
The Night Porter
Metropolitan
The River
A Day in the Country
The Confession
State of Siege
Les Blank: Always for Pleasure

Great pickups. You'll love 12 Angry Men and On The Waterfront. Absolute classics both, and Criterion knocked them both out of the park, in my opinion. The packaging for Waterfront is excellent, and the film has become one of my favorites from Brando.

Very nice! I haven't seen any of those films yet. What percentage of these represent blind buys, and which have you seen before?

I haven't watched either in over 10 years (when I was going through AFI's 100 greatest movies) but I remember LOVING 12 Angry Men and don't recall what I thought of On the Waterfront.

At any rate, they're solid ones to have on the shelf and I imagine the supplements should provide a whole lot of insight so I'm pretty happy to revisit them overall.

100% blind buys. I'm working my way through the collection, but had maybe seen 3-4 of the Criterion titles before I started collecting. Up until two years ago I was very much in the habit of watching terrible mainstream film. Fortunately, my cinematic world has gotten much better.

I've purchased a $10 gift certificate or 2 for myself to bring my total to $50 or more (usually with 2 half off titles) if I didn't need/want anything that would automatically give me free shipping. At least I'd be able to use that money in the future towards something else!

Just picked up:

A Room With a View
Night and the City
The Bitter Tears of Petra von Kant
The Palm Beach Story
Dressed to Kill

with the $10 credit and an old $10 GC that I purchased for myself during the last sale.

Even though the total before the credit and GC came to a few cents below $100, I got the free bag automatically added to my cart! Nice surprise!

I watched Eureka/MoC release of Onibaba last night. Man, this film is insane from start to finish! Criterion needs to release their version soon. I have The Naked Island as well to watch later.

There was nothing I was really dying for, but I had that $10 Facebook credit burning a hole in my account, so I picked up the John Cassavetes set. Not a bad deal -- $52 for five films plus a documentary.

Also, I finally watched The Honeymoon Killers on Hulu last night. It was much better than I expected considering the low budget and inexperienced director. The acting, writing and the direction were all top shelf, the only real rough spot being the sound, which was a little "boxy", for lack of a better word. A tough, gritty little masterpiece, but I'm not yet sure that I need to own it. Maybe I'll change my mind by the next B&N sale

The last 24 hours have been so busy, I almost forgot about the flash sale.

By the time I remembered, it had only a matter of minutes left. I picked out a few that interested me as fast as I could, but the checkout kept glitching up on me. And I was trying to do this at work, so I got interrupted by work stuff.

Somehow, I got an order in the last few minutes. Dressed To Kill, The Honeymoon Killers, and Gate of Hell all came to $45 (sale plus the $10 credit). They're all blind buys, so I hope they're good.

I didn't get a $10 credit as I don't do face page. I've been spoiled by my ability to pick up CC titles for around $12 over the course of the last several months, so I'm content to wait until the next few months' releases come out: The Apu Trilogy, Ikiru, Kwaidan. I'll get Mulholland Drive and My Own Private Idaho, but they are lesser priorities because I've seen MD a few times already and just recently saw MOPI.

Then we've also got Spartacus, You Can't Take it With You, and others that I'm sure I am forgetting about... A GREAT 3 month stretch of releases LEAD by Criterion. That's nonsense about other distributors outdoing them.

It's a baggu. "Bag" is too mundane for Criterion.

Halloween mask suggestions

Only see two Criterion titles in there. Speaking of Criterion halloween titles would love to see Blood For Dracula get a Blu upgrade. That movie cracks me up.

Four Criterions. Woo hoo! Onibaba, Eyes Without a Face, The Killing, The Silence of the Lambs (Criterion DVD)

Speaking of...

I watched my Blu-ray of Michael Mann's Manhunter this past weekend, and was reminded once again that it's my favorite of the Thomas Harris movie adaptations. I'd happily double-dip if Criterion ever were to get a hold of it.
