Maybe, you've seen me in your dreams?

I used it for a while when I first joined the forums, but I'm sure I've used it on a few other forums in the past, as well. I took it down because I got leary of strange men thinking about me and my face in a "more than friendly" type manner.

You realize that's the same as this set on CD? Having a collection of 300 plus vinyl, I never listen to anymore, have never understood the vinyl cult. It's not like its shellac...now that was a format to die for. I've got several thousand CDs that I rarely listen to anymore, the contents selectively filling my 80 gig ipod. I just don't have time to sit around in an easy chair with a glass of port enjoying music like I once did.

Here is Criterion's official statement on the recent decrease in their DVD pricing.

Quote:
In the past month or so, some customers have noticed a little change in the way we’re pricing new DVD releases, and they can’t seem to figure out whether to cheer or complain. We’ve been charging $10 less for fully loaded DVDs than we used to, dropping our suggested retail price for most new special editions from $39.95 to $29.95. So what’s the problem? Well, back when we started issuing Blu-rays, we promised that we’d price them the same way we’d been pricing DVDs, not make them more expensive, even though Blu-ray authoring and manufacturing costs were then and are still much higher than those costs ever were for DVD. Our goal was to take price out of the equation for buyers considering which edition to pick up, and up to now, that’s what we’ve done. Recently, some costs associated with producing finished DVDs have fallen dramatically, and we wanted to pass that savings on to our DVD customers. Should our pledge not to jack up the price of Blu-ray have prevented us from offering better pricing on DVD when the economics permitted it? We decided it shouldn’t, but some Blu-ray customers were understandably distressed when they saw the two formats priced differently. What do you think?

I would have preferred they dropped the price of Blu-rays AND DVDs, to correspond with the sales volume of each....

So, for example.... if they factored in the % of DVD vs. Blu-ray sales, and found their margins to be the same if they dropped Blu-ray and DVD pricing by say...... $3 or $4 rather than just dropping DVD $10, and Blu-ray remaining constant..... I think it would have pleased everyone..... now that they dropped DVD so dramatically, they obviously won't have the wiggle room to decrease Blu-ray prices anytime soon.....

It probably didn't make sense to drop the MSRP across the board by $5, or else they may have done that.....

I don't know.....

Red Shoes and Black Narcissus are great ones to be sure.

On the other hand, wrt Red Desert, just three words sum it up for me: Antonioni, Monica, Vitti. (Oh, and the cover sucks too.)

I would have preferred that they take all the extra profits from DVD sales and used them to buy back the rights to Invasion of the Body Snatchers.

Yeah, though not so much any more (have spent more time lately with film). My favorite kinds are rock and jazz.

Pretty intensely into free jazz for quite a while. Coltrane's Live In Japan sucked me right in circa '91 or so.

With talk of music, have there been any Criterion releases which prompted you to search for a soundtrack? Purchase a song?

After watching "The Third Man", I wanted that song, I guess it grew on me.

Also, I tried to find the soundtrack to "Masculin Feminin"...

"Contempt" led me to purchase several Brigitte Bardot albums.

"Gimme Shelter" led me to purchase The Rolling Stones "Hot Rocks" album not long ago.

Pierrot le fou led me to buy a few Anna Karina songs but I realized the tracks I purchased were later Karina when her voice sounded more raspy from all that smoking.

What else...hmm...

I remember when CC first had that photo up, I didn't feel comfortable trading with him. Looked like he was going to screw someone or just never be happy with the deal with that face. What's funny is that I could swear it was a pic of a guy from a band I saw.

I downloaded "The Third Man" soundtrack not long after I watched the film. I used the tune for a ringtone on my phone for a while, as well. I think it's a great soundtrack, so it's always baffled me when people say that the continuous zither music annoyed them.

After first ever seeing Godard's trailer for "Vivre Sa Vie," I went looking for it but ended up downloading the "Histoire(s) de Musique" soundtrack, which has a nice selection of tunes from Godard films.

Hahaha. Well, that was just a "trying to be cool and serious" photo that I took at work a few years back. It's okay, though... I'm harmless.

EDIT: And now I've gone and changed my photo to a 2002 photo at an amusement park in northwest Georgia... also, the top left portion of a female friend's head.

I got a couple of soundtrack records that I can think of off the top of my head.
Miles Davis' sountrack for Elevator to the Gallows
The Harder They Come soundtrack
and not a criterion movie, but Francis Lai's soundtrack for A Man and a Woman

And now that you mention it, I probably would get The Third Man recording if I found it at a record store and could look at the condition of the record. I love the Zither.

I broke down and pre ordered the new Image Entertainment versions of The Long Good Friday and Mona Lisa from Amazon. I usually have a rule about waiting for a review before I buy anything but I figured at 13 bucks each it's pretty hard to go wrong. I never bought the Criterion discs to either of these movies (I have the Anchor Bay Long Good Friday) but I remember them both to be non-anamorphic and in need of an update. I'll let everybody know if they're worth it when I get them. If anybody likes British gangster flicks these movies are essential viewing.
