I would rank them like this:

Great
Red Desert
La Notte

Good
L'avventura

Ok
L'eclisse
I love them all, with Red Desert and L'avventura vying for the top spot. I think they're all stone-cold masterpieces tho.

As for January, I'll keep flying the flag for Jeanne Dielman, as I do every month. Would also be nice to see some Rivette, but I think it's a bit too early for that Paris nous appartient clue to come thru just yet.

I figure it would be easier to just send a replacement case rather than a whole new package, but I don't know. Has this happened to anyone else? What happened?
My copy of The Hunger came unshrinkwrapped and missing the booklet. Criterion completely took my word for it and offered a return exchange. The disc and case were fine so I suggested that if it were possible, they should just send a replacement booklet, which they seemed thrilled to do. Showed up well-packaged a couple of days later.

Based on my experience, they will want to work with you to make you a happy customer.

Great - L'avventura

Incomplete - L'eclisse (scenes just seem too random... I didn't exactly know what to make of La Notte, but it managed to hold my interest. thought this one was abstract to the point of boredom.)

you guys have piqued my interest in Red Dessert, though... I think it is the only one of these 4 with a 100% RT score.

Very much so! It is actually the right portion of a double recliner couch with cup holders and a storage thingy in between. I got it earlier this year and we still haven't finished setting up the film room for it, but many Criterions will be watched from these chairs.

Same here. I ordered Videodrome (only one of the coolest cases ever, btw) several flash sales ago and the case was damaged and they couldn't have been nicer about sending out a replacement. I had to send a second reminder mail but the whole thing went very smoothly.

Did anyone else get a "baggu" Criterion bag that you didn't order with your Flash sale order.
maybe thrown in as a freebie?
I have no idea.
I just know I didn't order one and got one, although it is kinda cool I guess.
(in the end it is a little too flimsy for my tastes)

I love L'Avventura, La Notte, L'Eclisse, and Red Desert pretty much equally, and I give five stars to all of them.

Do not write off Identification of a Woman, though. This film has some incredible visuals, and a fog sequence is one of the coolest things that you'll see on Blu-ray.

Plus, the music for Identification of a Woman is outstanding...
