How about a box of Bertolluci's Eastern trilogy?

The Last Emperor (recent 4K restoration in original aspect ratio)
The Sheltering Sky
Little Buddha

My upgrade wish list

Le Samourai
Bicycle Thieves
Carnival of Souls
Red Beard
Stray Dog
3 classics by Josef Von Sternberg
Vampyre
And God Created Women
Jigoku
Kill!
The Naked City
Pandora's Box
The Scarlett Empress
Ugetsu

Its amazing how many great Criterion titles are out of print. Some of their best titles. I wonder if they are actively trying to get the rights back from Studiocanal. Lionsgate has no intention of releasing any of those films. Would be a happy day to see those titles come home to Criterion.

After having to read quite some homophobic comments during the last few days today I just wish for more films dealing with a broader range of sexuality and films or actors defying stereotypical gender roles.

Suddenly, Last Summer
I Confess
Damage (Malle)
M. Butterfly (Cronenberg)
The Last Emperor (theatrical and tv version)
The Man Who Fell To Earth (rerelease)

(not at all considering rights issues)

Hope they weren't comments on this site (report them!!). I also wish there was more exploration of gender/sexuality in cinema. All your suggestions would be great Criterion additions, I think.

Lets go with:

Gilda
The New World
Clouds of Sils Maria
The Graduate
Lady Eve BD
Passion of Joan of Arc Reissue

Wouldnt surprise if Inside Llewyn Davis was this month or next to coincide with Hail, Caesar

Interesting.

I know the picture they posted was of an interview with K-Stew, so I imagine it's coming sooner rather than later.

EDIT: Re: The Graduate, it would be awesome if they included the commentary by Brad Bird, it's pretty cool and he is very intresting.

Aside from my usual request for anything Naruse, I'd love to see Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter... and Spring. That film is just too beautiful to keep watching it on dvd (not to mention I'd like to see some special features).

I was going to avoid the whole wish list thing today since others have already posted most of the ones I'd like to see, but I'll put my wish in now for Slaughterhouse-Five. Oh, and some of that Warner pre-code they hinted at earlier this year would be awesome.

Off topic, but I have a 720p copy of Lone Star... so I assume a master of some sort exists.

#2 is about the most reasonable rationale provided by anyone who has ever been challenged after saying something that initially seemed to be absurd.

with that said, I think you're ok with sharing the first reason. I find that the "fanboy" accusation is more applicable in the 'news' article section than it is here... no one is going to jump down your throat.

I'm prone to start ranting in all caps if pro TT crap takes over this thread, so hopefully you can stick with your compadres in the other one! If you guys get bored, you could meet up and literally burn money together or something.

filmmusic has gone on record saying that he likes...

wait for it...

"film music," so if his preference is for TT to release something because there would be an isolated score track, I don't see anything wrong with that. w/o that rationale, it would be an absurd preference for reasons that need not be stated.

Let us not state any more statements concerning double letter capitalizations. Not on announcement day please. A lot of decent people have to check this thread every 15 minutes. Think of the innocents who might bring their wallets into that sticky web of nonsense.

I'm pretty sure the reason it has not seen the light of day on Blu ray is that Criterion does not want to release what is being offered to them. I'm assuming the master used for the France release. They are searching for the elements do create a new master. This is basically the answer they keep providing in chats and pod casts. Same goes with Andrei Rublev and quite a few other titles.

sure would be a good day, though, if we got a (any) Melville or Tarkovsky.
