Yeah, I don't know either. Just know the song in the film (the one at the beginning). I just don't know what the one from the trailer is called.

When Criterion was doing Laserdiscs like Bram Stoker's Dracula, the concept of a "Special Edition" with "Extra Features" was still largely ignored by the major distributors, who in any case, made millions more off of feature-only VHS tapes than their own Laserdiscs, which rarely included extras beyond perhaps a commentary or trailer. Therefore, Criterion was the only game in town for things like featurettes, scholarly analyses, and other material that was thought only to have niche value. However, when DVD came out, the studios started seeing the advantages of extras and started doing "Special Editions" of their own films. That's why, in general, you see nary a "commercial" film in The Criterion Collection nowadays, as they can't get the license to many, and in any case, have turned to releasing other films unlikely to get equal treatment from anyone else.

That sideburn--along with the angle of the image and the expression on your face--is giving me Deliverance-esque anxieties...

I have to watch Steamboat Bill Jr. this evening, if I can stay awake
Steamboat bill jr is awesome. There is one part that always has me on the floor laughing. Speaking of silent comedies I wish Criterion would hurry up with the Chaplin movies.

Speaking of silents, I heard that Criterion had another Paramount silent (which the von Sternberg silents came from) they had licensed in THE WEDDING MARCH. It would be dvd-only of course, since they licensed the Paramount films before blu, but I would like to know what is the update on that since it's been like 3 years since they licensed these.

I'm heading back to college next month and my parents were extremely kind enough to buy me 6 Criterion movies from Barnes and Noble with their current sale.

Later today I'll be adding:

Days of Heaven
Gomorrah
The Last Year at Marienbad
The Leopard
Summer Hours
Walkabout

I already went by there to check and see if they had the films. Needless to say I'm very excited.

That's my whole schtick. Wasn't "Deliverance" filmed in GA, too... or was it only supposed to take place in GA? I can't remember.

While we're discussing silent films--- has anyone else seen The Complete Metropolis?

If you have please share your opinions of it. If you haven't seen it and it's playing near you DON'T MISS IT! It's GREAT

Out of the 6 I'm getting I only watched part of Summer Hours and I haven't seen The Leopard. I didn't finish Summer Hours because I ended up getting busy with summer classes and never got around to finishing it, but I really enjoyed the first part of the film.

As for The Leopard I really hadn't done much research on the film until it was announced to be released. After reading up on it a little bit I figured I would take the risk and watch it. I see that you own it, how did you like it?

What??? Can't a guy catch a break??? I'm not losing my hair... yet!!! That was one of my "growing out my hair" again stages. So, naturally, the hair has to go somewhere, right? When I was a kid, we'd call it a "skate-rat" hair-do. Then, it became my Glenn Danzig hair-do starting in middle school? So, how do we go from that then to it now being a comb-over? Looks like it's time to change the avatar again before I leave work. I'm running out of pictures on my work computer, though.
