They've delayed before and sent a tweet, which is no problem. Delaying without notice is dickish, regardless whether they "owe" us anything. It's a courtesy to their customers.

No one's asking for a video recording of them apologising to everyone individually. A tweet saying 'Hey guys, the announcement will be tomorrow' is such a minor ask, that it is actually pretty dickish to not do it.

They know people are waiting.

They don't owe it, but it is still a reasonable thing to expect.

Folks get upset because Criterion doesn't inform them announcements will come the following day. Next day announcements are out and folks complain nothing for them to buy in that batch.

Sure, they are never going to please everyone. But there are some very minor easy steps that can lessen the number of people they displease.

For what it's worth, I'm seldom displeased with Criterion. I'm an avid fan and hardly ever a complainer. Usually I defend them, but I also look forward to the 15th of the month, like many fellow fans. Repeating myself, but a little courtesy goes along way.

I get back from my Thursday night group run to see no announcements. Oh well...

My dismay is alleviated to no small extent by the fact that my Blu-ray of The Brood arrived in the mail today.

Incidentally, The Brood arrived in the mail along with Grease (1978). I have this mental image of a bunch of bewildered Amazon employees staring at my order and asking themselves, "Who in the hell orders both The Brood and Grease at the same time?"

Reminds me of the time I ordered The Turin Horse and Funny Face.

Had a cashier at Media Play just stop...look at me and asked, " you listen to both Alice Cooper, and George Jones ? "

Keep 'em on their toes, I always say.

In lieu of the January new releases announcement, it may be comforting to know that TCM will be screening a whole bunch of Criterion titles in January, ranging from Things to Come to Broadcast News to Hiroshima, Mon Amour, Night and Fog, The River, Stagecoach, Valerie and Her Week of Wonders, Diabolique and too many others to name here. There will be a mini-salute to Yasujiro Ozu on January 10 and a birthday tribute to Ernst Lubitsch on January 28.

January will also feature Fred MacMurray as the Star of the Month, and there's a nice selection of pre-Code, 1930's horror, and film noir goodies scattered throughout. I'm especially happy that they've scheduled a showing of the early talkie, Bulldog Drummond (1929), starring Ronald Colman and Joan Bennett for the prime time feature on January 7; it's been on my "Want to See" list forever. Good stuff on the way!

Of course it is. It's a Lab. Cute is part of the design spec.

I'm not a dog person, either, but my very favorite dog of all time, from back when I was a little kid, was a neighbor's dog that was mixed Lab and Airdale. An amazing beautiful and sweet dog.

Whattayamean? Of course they're dicks. The only way they could possibly shed their dickhood would be to announce straightaway their permanent schedule, detailing every month's release between now and the heat death of the universe.

And even that won't make them not dicks, because they're bound to leave off at least one title on each of our want lists.

Scrimy bastards.
