When I initiate an Amazon return, I'm given the option of having UPS (United Parcel Service, not the USPS) pick it up the next business day. I just print out the label, affix it to the package, and then leave it out on the porch the next morning. The UPS man comes by, picks it up and leaves me a receipt ... no muss, no fuss, and no effort.

You might check and see if that's an option for you, and if it isn't, call Amazon Customer Service and tell them you need it. They should be willing to accommodate you.
I'm about to crash out for a few hours, but I'll check my account and see if that's an option already. Thank you for the suggestion.

For me, the worst it's been from purchased used via ebay, or amazon third party seller.

From Criterion directly they sometimes come perfect and sometimes with little beat up corners, and usually order in big quantities so they all come in a big box.

In the end I have not returned anything and don't think the small problems from my Criterion orders would be bad enough to anyone else to warrant a return, but if you order on small quantities, say 3 or less I am not sure, as I haven't seen the packaging used in those cases.
If I can have the USPS pick up my Amazon returns from home, then I shouldn't have any issue trying a second time for better packaging. I don't think it's asking for too much when spending $25 on a single movie. But now that I know I could always pay to have replacement packaging sent, it's less of a concern. At least I have options.

Thanks again!

Have a great weekend, both of you!

It is an incredibly real film, so honest in how it approaches its subjects that the viewer is frequently devastated by scenes played between the characters that are composed solely of dialogue and small actions. Seeing it for the first time on Blu-ray two years ago, I know now why it has held up as a classic for nearly 70 years. It truly is a marvel and a treasure of a film.
In that same vein I'd recommend Since You Went Away. Equally long, equally character driven, but focusing on the women (mostly) and what was happening on the home front during the war. I haven't seen a movie that presents that experience in such an effective way (I'm talking life in the US during WWII only).

This is the kind of packaging you get for one movie:

Outside

Inside

Not the best pics, I know. Sorry about that.

Obviously, those pics show an already opened package (in case anyone is inadvertently led to believe it arrived ripped and torn - rest assured, it did not, LOL).

Outside, it's one of those brown cardboard envelopes-of-sorts that essentially "wraps" itself around the movie, if that makes any sense. (If anyone knows the "official" name for that type of packaging, please chime in.) The movie is packed very tightly inside. No possibility of it moving around at all.

Inside, there's a protective layer, as you can see.

The movie arrived in perfect condition.

Where are you seeing these? I can't find anything on Criterion.com. (Not saying I don't believe you - of course I do - I'm just wondering where you found the list, because I'm obviously looking in the wrong places.)

Edit: D'OH. I just noticed The Room. Now I feel like a fool.

Don't even bother with #792. The only real special feature is the commentary, which I've heard, and they totally phoned it In.

Should be a great month, nice to see a Best Picture Oscar winner amongst the releases (#794).

I was hoping for the inclusion of the John Musacha Tapes. Guess that isn't going to happen.

It is practically Tennessee Williams. Would be a gem if we got this masterpiece into the collection.

I tried watching that on TCM last week.

Only made it about 30 minutes in and turned it off.

Love Orson Welles, but just not a big fan of straight Shakespeare.

I can see them delaying until Monday and not saying anything.

They really need to communicate better, or just scrap the 15th tradition if they can't get it together.

This is when we find out that Becker was the glue keeping the 15th of the month a almost tradition.

I'm not that far into the game. Unfortunately, I got a corrupted save and had to start over. Just beat the honey bee mission.
