My first Criterion was Pulp Fiction on laserdisc.

My first Criterion DVD was Robocop.

My first Criterion blu-ray was Chungking Express.

Good times.

First DVD was from eBay. I had to buy The Rock, and the guy threw in The Vanishing. I fell in love with The Vanishing and although I didn't buy any other DVDs except for the other big Hollywood hit, Armageddon, I started purchasing a lot more when Blu rays were released.

First CC BD purchase included The Man Who Fell to Earth and Repulsion.

I picked up the Criterion Blu-ray of Kwaidan at Movie Stop during lunch break. I used to have the Criterion DVD, so I'm looking forward to checking out the improvements.

Does anyone know how many copies of the AK 100: 25 Film by Akira Kurosawa were released?
I broke down and purchased a set today on eBay. I know most titles will eventually get released on blu-ray, but the set looks amazing to me and I really wanted this on my shelf.

Anybody have this?

I know Polaroid does. I just have the book from it.

Now you have a copy of Madadayo!

I don't know how many copies they made. I don't think it was a specific limited number.

I'm amazed that this is real, but it has been confirmed.

These are coming to Costco on November 2nd at the rumored price of $59.99.

They came out earlier this week and I suspected they were fake, but Ryan from Criterion Cast confirmed they are real.

Nicely repackaged box sets, but no double-dipping for me. This is purely a marketing ploy by Criterion to solidify their standing with Costco's wholesale big box retail market. Interesting marketing strategy and also a good thing in general, as the general mainstream public can continue discovering a high quality video distributor in the Criterion Collection (and box sets to boot).

I'm hoping that those two boxsets don't take over the Criterion section, and the Costco near me will stop selling the singles.

Was thinking the same thing. Guess I better go grab the two I don't have yet.

That Hitchcock set looks nice. I wonder if it's a fancy digipack or just a slipcover for the first releases of the films. I think that it might be a custom packaging because the original releases of those movies had different packagings, I know Foreign Correspondent was a digipack while the other three were all in standard cases I believe.

I've noticed that Criterion put some effort into making the re-releases look like a different release, even the disc art is different on the first release of Throne of Blood (DVD combo) and the second blu ray only release:

The same goes for the single release of Five Easy Pieces:

Oh man, I think I would have a heart attack if Criterion were to release a Robert Altman box set, especially if they get McCabe & Mrs. Miller and maybe Images.

Costco seems so incongruous with the Criterion Collection. Not to be a snob, but every time I go into Costco I see a bunch of individuals fighting to redefine the term yokel. "Haha look at this, honey. You see the word 'cock' in it? Must be some kind of porno or sumfin'."

I KEEL YOU, I too would love a bunch more Altman Criterion releases. "McCabe", "California Split" and "Images" would be awesome.

Never gonna happen, but Quintet would be cool just for the interesting supplements they might be able to come up with.
