Pierrot le Fou is my favorite Godard film and one of the most brilliant art films ever made.

Personally, I would describe it as very experimental.

...almost nothing about it is conventional.

Weekend seemed extremely pretentious especially with the end of the film. Maybe he wasn't over the top "preachy" as I believe you mentioned in the podcast, but I thought the 3rd part of the film

I will put Pierrot le fou in the immediate queue. Based upon what I've heard I fully expect to like it more than Weekend. I think I could watch anything with Anna Karina.
I'm very much a babe in my foreign/art house viewings, so maybe I'm just not feeling the artsy films as much.

You will probably appreciate Pierrot le fou. It will at least not disgust you.

I loved Pierrot le Fou. Weekend I still need to see though, probably will grab it during the next sale.

PLF shows his absolute adoration for American film. Weekend shows his hatred. I like Godard more when he is upbeat and positive, but Weekend worked for me.

The guy doing the narration sounds like Frank Caliendo's impersonation of the movie trailer guy.

Wouldn't be at all surprised if this were to wind up getting a Criterion release. A wonderfully eccentric movie, very much on a Repulsion/Persona wavelength.

Almodóvar would seem like a good candidate for some kind of box set being that none of his films from his peak era are available on Blu-ray. I've seen six of his films (I think he's at 19 right now.) It'd be great to revisit the ones I've seen and explore some of the ones I haven't via some nicely restored transfers in a Criterion box set.

Talk to Her was probably my favorite movie of the 00's... Y Tu Mamá También and Mulholland Drive would be #2 and #3. ..and then, of course, In The Mood For Love and Yi Yi are brilliant, but I just recently discovered those, so for now, the three I listed are my favorites.

A Special Day Blu-ray REVIEW



It is great to see that Ettore Scola, one of the true (remaining) giants of Italian cinema, is finally in the Criterion Collection. Hopefully, we will see more of his films soon. The new 4K restoration is stunning



There is only one film from Scola on Blu-ray in the U.S., but if you are interested in his work these releases from Gaumont are Region-Free and English-friendly. Wonderful films. I also included Scola's directorial debut, Let's Talk About Women, which is out only on DVD in France. It is English-friendly, but this release has been very difficult to get. So track down a copy now if you want it. The film is as entertaining as Dino Risi's Il Sorpasso, which Scola scripted. Again with Vittorio Gassman

The Viva Pedro dvd box set was one of my all-time favorite sets. Just an amazing set. I can't even imagine a Criterion blu-ray box set; it would be the best thing they've ever released.

Saw this as a kid on a Disney Compilation VHS called Scary Tales and it spooked me aplenty. Later, I got The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr Toad DVD. It still holds up.
