I know its not in the Criterion Collection, but can't Eyes Wide Shut be partially considered a horror film?
I mean, just the way Kubrick edited that thing, with the ominous music and that famous sequence we all know about (with the cloaks and masks), its a scary film! There's something that is just so unnerving about that movie. To me, movies like that are scarier than gory monster movies with slashers and vampires. |

All your questions, and many more, can be answered with a Magic 8 ball, a free one month trial subscription to Hulu Plus, and about two weeks left before the Criterion sale to watch all of these movies before you walk in the door of a B&N to make your final selection. And nothing is scarier than your fugly avatar. ![]() Last edited by oildude; 10-30-2015 at 04:24 AM. |

The Devil's Backbone is the better of the two. More scary and more interesting. Cronos is worth is still worth watching, but The Devil's Backbone is much more rewarding.

![]() After subjecting us to Bobby Peru for so long, your next avatar should be the Unknown Comic. [Show spoiler] Seriously, get a free hulu plus trial subscription and watch Seconds, Pale Flower, Cronos, The Devil's Backbone, Ride the Pink Horse, Revanche, and any other suggestion you have not seen. Then you will know which one to pick for your final choice if you are determined to limit yourself to just one. And you will be armed for the next sale with a new list since I think you will like all of the above. Also, don't forget the Magic 8 ball if you don't get hulu. Given your complaints last sale in July about not liking many of your blind buy recommendations from members, you will get just as good or better advice from the ball as you will here. Id say The Devils Backbone but Cronos is also very good. Get both if you can. those were 2 out my first 3 titles bought this past July during my first B&N sale. I was trying to decide between them also but then just took both.

Seconds, Cronos, The Devil's Backbone, Repulsion, Rosemary's Baby, etc are all great "scary" movies for Halloween. But I have two that I would sincerely recommend, although they aren't in the Criterion Collection.
It Follows is the best horror to come along in years. Trust me. The Entity has a similar concept to It Follows, and is genuinely suspenseful. Martin Scorsese called it one of his favorite horror films. I like it better then the not famous Poltergeist. 👻 |

Started Seconds last night, but wasn't quite in the mood to stick with it. Camera work is very different from anything I've seen. It wasn't that I didn't find it interesting, but staying up past 11 pm watching films for 3 straight nights finally caught up with me.
Funny how some films are an easy watch and some require a little more mental clarity. |
