I only made it through the first two movies in Peter Jackson's The Hobbit trilogy. I just couldn't take it. Those Hobbit movies were like well-written parodies of The Lord of the Rings movies.

Peter Jackson's King Kong was...well...I cannot think of anything good to say about it. The original 1933 movie is so brilliant with the pacing, and it still stands as one of the most fast-paced movies ever. The new one...not so much.

It also irritates me that King Kong is an actual gorilla in the Peter Jackson movie. I never thought of Kong as a gorilla in the original film. He's the Great Ape...he's a species that the world has never seen before.
I enjoyed Peter Jackson's King Kong more then any of the other versions ive seen I found it very entertaining. The 1933 King Kong I found it hard to sit through the times ive seen it. Id always find an excuse to pause/stop it & go something else then come back. The first time I saw it, it took me 3 days to finish watching it.

I've been (secretly) wanting a 3 Films by Joe Wright Starring Keira Knightley box set for quite a while now (Pride & Prejudice, Atonement, and Anna Karenina); it would be, dare I say it, perfection.
Atonement is a brilliant film. Cloud Atlas is absolutely awful.

Noticed the review of Kwaidan is now up.

Never seen it and somewhat intrigued. Could be a blind buy in the B&N sale next week.

I'm going to watch the supplements tonight which I expect to help.

As far as the concept of the film...very thought provoking. If this is the lesser of Kieślowski's Criterion releases, then good film watching nights lie ahead.
It is a good time to watch The Double Life of Véronique this week. I'm still holding off on The Three Colors Trilogy until I can binge watch over one week.
Watched the supplements for Blind Chance and it helped tremendously with the historic background of the film. It makes you appreciate Criterion releases and getting everything possible out of a film.
Fabulous movie.

I started Double Live of Véronique and will finish it today at lunch.

I totally agree about the Hobbit films. The first half of Unexpected Journey is great but then the rest of the trilogy just falls off the rails. I gotta disagree with you about Jackson's version of Kong though. I love both versions and if I was picking i'd take the 1933 version, but after recently rewatching the remake I really saw it's charms. It's really a love letter to the original in so many ways and contains some of the best action sequences in modern times (coming from a guy who HATES this stuff). Give it another viewing somewhere down the road and see if you don't come to a different conclusion. I originally hated the film as well.

3 a day, sometimes 4. Burned some midnight oil but it was totally worth it. Wait until you get into the later entries. SO good.

Big fan of Cloud Atlas as well. Love that movie. Been itching for a re-watch lately but other stuff keeps getting in the way. Will get on that soon.

I'll keep an eye out for it... maybe I can pick it up cheap from somewhere.

Same here. If anyone has a little patience you can pick this up on eBay for a better deal then buying it thru B&N. I got a sealed copy a couple of months ago shipped for $25 and have almost won used copies for $18 or so before getting outbid.

Atonement is great, and I also love his previous film Pride and Prejudice. Probably one of the best made chick flicks ever.

Seems I can get it for around £30 which is cheaper than B&N, cheers for the heads up.
