As much as I really like some of the ideas and scenes in Nymphomaniac, I found it incredibly hard to sit through the whole thing a second time when the directors cut was released. Its ambitious and bold but doesn't quite work for me at such a run time. Your comment makes me a bit more interested to see Love. |

Actually, his name was Sasa Daisaku in the Zatoichi movie. It isn't the same character from the Kurosawa movies, though of course meant to be interpreted by audiences as such.

Yeah, I think Yojimbo means bodyguard or something like that. I just refer to him by that since his actual name seems to always be vague.

I also enjoy the Criterion Collection because they routinely select films that are hugely influential, but under-recognized here on these shores, and present them with transfers that are usually stunning and supplements that are always informative. My years of enjoying Criterion titles have been quite fruitful, because I've discovered many films that have turned out to be genuine fun favorites, and I've learned a great deal about the "cinematic family tree" from which contemporary films are descended. |

Because spending your money on a mortgage, clothing for the wife and kids, food and UK basketball tickets is not as essential as picking up whatever Criterion throws a spine number on. |
