Anyone else have that one title at the bottom of their wishlist that they know they're just never going to get no matter how many sales they have, or is that just me?

I've been meaning to upgrade my old DVDs of Au Revoir Les Enfants and Smiles of a Summer Night since I bought a Blu-ray player, but it just...it just hasn't happened.

I've placed 3 separate online orders this morning so I can use 20% coupons. Is there a limit on what you can order in one day? I can't get anything else to go through.

Probably to stop dirty scoundrels from maximizing their coupons....

I know lol I still wont believe it until its marked shipped. Checked the tread last night and someone had posted that B&N was having some crazy auction deals on eBay for Criterion box sets. Zatoichi was one of them. They left me feedback and debited the total but still havent marked it shipped so Im still not holding my breath lol

Someone posted they had 250 copies and apparently they sold out within an hour.

Their ebay username is barnesandnobleinc you should def check their auctions out.

Looks like the prices are back to MSRP today for most of them.

I have no idea how you read that out of my post, instead of looking at the obvious problem:

How old is the kid? 9, 10 years old at most? I don't know of any 10 year old who can express themselves that eloquently, and I've come across some really smart kids in my lifetime. There is absolutely no indication throughout the movie that he is a budding literary genius of humanist wisdom either. It smacks a little of the old "The little kid ultimately is the wisest of them all" cliche which is something I was a little disappointed Yang resorted to.

I get that the kid was observing and processing everything he saw throughout the movie. And it's possible he was learning from everyone else's mistakes. I can buy that. I just didn't buy that entire speech coming from a little kid. If I saw that happen in real life, I'd have assumed his parents wrote it for him. It just seemed like a phony moment in a film that was very genuine and unforced up to that point.

I'd honestly like to hear some other thoughts on this, because maybe I can be convinced that it wasn't a totally forced "child knows best" moment with the right argument.

I picked up Kwaidan, It Happened One Night, and Summer with Monika this morning. I also ordered The Essential Jacques Demy to be sent to my home (as the in-store copy was a little dinged up). It came up to just over $100, which was more than I was intending to spend today. I feel a bit better if I think about it this way: $11 per film.

I'm looking to get just these four more by the sale's end: Don't Look Now, Odd Man Out, The Bitter Tears of Petra von Kant, and The Apu Trilogy.

That is pretty crazy, and I can see why they sold out so fast. And thanks for the username, I'll check them out! Good luck with the shipping!

Aside from the OOP and dvd only releases, I always think about getting Rosetta or Summer with Monika, but every time a sale comes, my wishlist has too many titles that I prefer and have to put a limit on the amount to get.

Picked up Kwaidan and Mulholland Drive this morning.

...The MD digibook looks so freaking great.

Two of the most gorgeous cases you will ever see.

I certainly didn't mean to misrepresent your opinion. You said that you found "the kid's monologue at the end to be overly articulate and slightly pompous coming from a kid who up to that point spoke more with glances and body language". To me that indicated that you felt that someone who spoke rarely, or frequently relied on non verbal communication, would be inarticulate when they did speak. If you were simply surprised due to his age, I'm not sure what the point was of mentioning his communication habits displayed in the film prior to that point.

Ive known lots of kids that age, or even.younger, who were extremely articulate, and those usually weren't the kind of kids that were always talking. Frequently those kind of kids (and people really) dont bother to talk unless they feel they have something worth saying.

Nice! I'm about half way - but there are releases I probs won't buy tbh

-

I ended up buying A Hard Days Night - I know I said I disliked The Beatles on here in past and said i'd never buy, but I did catch a bit of it on TV and the cinematography is incredible, bought it for that alone!

I don't know what happened this morning, but I have placed my 4th order of the day for Human Condition so it seems fine now. I still have one 20% coupon left, but I'm waiting to see if eBay cancels my Berlin Alexanderplatz B&N order before I use it.

One frustrating thing I did not realize is that you can only enter 3 gift certificates at a time into your account. I bought up multiple GCs from CardCash for less than $10 each. So, I have to limit my purchases to one or two titles to use up all of my credit.

It would be so much easier if I was near civilization and could go to an actual store.

LOL looks like Anderson got a job handling eBay sales for Barnes and Noble. This isn't going to do his resume any favors.

Congratulations to you! My goal is to be you when I grow up!

And I made some headway toward that goal today at my local Barnes and Noble. They spoiled me, as usual, even giving me some coupons that other people had not used, and sending some more coupons home with me, telling me to come back! Here's what I scored:

John Cassavetes: Five Films boxed set @ $ 48.24
Andre Gregory & Wallace Shawn: 3 Films boxed set @ 35.99
Mulholland Drive @ $ 12.19
Two Days, One Night @ 13.51
The Brood @ 16.88
A Special Day @ 16.88
Honeymoon Killers @ 16.89

I looked for, but didn't find, A Room With a View; incredibly, they had sold out of that title. And ... I got their last copy of The Brood, which they said was selling fast even before the sale started. All in all, a great day!
