I have! And I would again ... except that I already own most of what you're offering for sale. One thing I can tell everyone, buying from you and/or Ray Jackson really is like buying brand new. You're both incredibly conscientious sellers.

Speaking of buying used, I picked up a copy of Whit Stillman's The Last Days of Disco recently, never even remotely expecting that I would enjoy it. I just wanted a copy to fill in my collection. I was in a "what the heck" mood last night and watched it. Maybe it's because I had low expectations, but I really got a kick out of it, especially the performances of Chloe Sevigny, Kate Beckinsale, Mackenzie Astin and Matt Keeslar. There were nicely played bits by Jennifer Beale and Robert Sean Leonard as well. And the Criterion transfer was absolutely gorgeous. I was very pleasantly surprised, and can even see myself revisiting the film someday.

I've said it before, but here's another example of why I love the Criterion Collection ... through it I'm introduced to some wonderful films that I would otherwise never sample. Now I'm looking forward to checking out Stillman's other Criterion entry, Metropolitan, and wouldn't complain if they added his Barcelona to the collection.

Thanks for the kind words, buddy!

I don't mind The Last Days of Disco, but I wasn't particularly fond of Metropolitan mainly because I absolutely hate the whole snotty and prude debutante society.

After living in NYC for awhile, I found Last Days of Disco to be one of the most realistic depictions of life there.

I don't do ebay.

...just seems like a pain in the butt.

Plus the seller's fee.

One of my wishlist foreign films has been released in Korea with English subtitles, Region Free.
Camille Claudel (1988)
Do you think it could be a Criterion title?
StudioCanal seems to have the rights to Europe.

Here's some screenshots. It seems quite good.

Since you don't do it, you are just assuming it's a "pain in the butt." It's far from that.

Yeah, I'm not really sure why it's more or less of a pain in the butt than any other way.

I have to take pictures of my blu-rays and upload the pictures.

It looked like I had to read a bunch of stuff to have a comprehensive understanding of the rules, guidelines, bidding system and payment structure.

I have to worry about getting ripped off by unscrupulous buyers who apparently have most of the leverage when it comes to any kind of dispute--at least that's what I've heard.

That may not seem like a lot to a normal-functioning human being like yourself, but when you're as lazy and generally unproductive as I tend to be...it's a big deal.

And quite frankly the profit margin didn't seem that great when I scoped out what some of my Criterions were listed for there. I might be able to get a few bucks more, but I also have to pay a seller's feel...so the net result isn't always that much better there than it is here.

For every one of the Criterions I wanted to sell, there were at least a dozen already for sale on Ebay.

All that may true, and you may or may not break even reselling on eBay; however, if you blind buy a movie and decide you don't want to keep it in your collection, the worst case scenario amounts to a rental fee to find that out.

Default The Man Who Knew Too Much

Hi folks, I hope you all are having fun with this sale I know I am. In a frenzy, I picked up The Man Who Knew Too Much forgetting that I had it in my Alfred Hitchcock UK boxset. I may need some persuading and love to hear reasons why I should keep the Criterion version. I'm a huge Hitchcock fan. $16.74 out the door helps the double-dip sting.

The Criterion is the 1934 TMWKTM whereas the boxset has the 1956 Jimmy Stewart version.

Yes! That is right! The Criterion has Peter Lorre. And you WOULD KNOW with that Rear Window avatar (my fave). That makes it easy then! Thanks

So that was a nice bonus.

My favorites are generally the Louisiana films, but all of the music ones are fantastic. He exposes you to a different world.
Totally right on that! It's a whole different world... and a world that is long lost and long gone but because of Mr. Blank, we have this preserved on film. He captured history and has contributed to the preservation of culture from the deep south of the USA. He should be honored even more than just having a box set. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences should give him a lifetime achievement award for his great work.

I bought two Criterions today, by the way!

Mulholland Drive

and

Code Unknown

I used a 20% coupon on one of them too...combined with 50% off and the 10% member discount, I paid an average of $16 for each!

"And now, the Academy is proud to present the Lifetime Achievement Award to Les Blank. Since Les Blank was unable make it in person, Tom Cruise will receive it in his place."

I thought they give posthumous awards out to already deceased filmmakers at the Academy though?

Sorta Criterion-related but got in the new Polish blu-rays of the remaster of Kieslowski's The Decalogue. Specs listed Region Free and DTS-HD audio, but there is no DTS-HD audio, only DD 2.0. It's NOT region-free (at least it won't play on my Region A Panasonic player). I'm region free so it's no big deal to me.
Detail is great, the remaster looks amazing, but the disc has terrible encoding and there's a lot of visible compression issues even in motion.
Still better than the old OOP DVDs, but hopefully Criterion or someone else will bring along a slightly better edition with better PQ. Funny, some of the recent Criterion releases have similar compression issues in screenshots but it's not really visible in motion. This, however, is visible in motion for some reason.

For what it's worth I have sold many Criterion blu-rays and DVDs on eBay and it's relatively painless.

You don't have to upload pictures. eBay generally has a record of all Criterion titles, just plug in the UPC and all the information preloads.

I don't mess around with an auction style bid. I input the item condition and set a BUY IT NOW PRICE. eBay will give you a recommended shipping charge, usually USPS First Class, and it's usually pretty dead-on. Set up a PayPal account and accepting payment is easy as well. I have probably sold 30-40 used Criterion titles and never had an issue. Generally, the titles I have listed sell within 2 days.

At how much you sell them?

I was thinking on selling here to avoid ebay fees, but seems Criterions don't sell that well on here, selling for $15 and with the high paypal fees I am getting for International payments and shipping I would end up at around $10 profit.

What I like on eBay is that you get special shipping price and can easily print the labels with free tracking.
