Don't hate me. I'll either sleep through or have my order canceled on the next half dozen too good to be true bargains.

If it is any consolation, I'm going to give a couple friends really nice Christmas gifts. If they are interested that is.
Wow. An absolute steal. No hate here. Hope you love hanging out with Zatoichi as much as me. That guy is a badass.

And yes, I would love to see Seven Days in May on Criterion. The Train is also a possibility when the Twilight Time rights expire.

So I have some BN 20% coupons...but they expire on 11/15, two days before the Apu trilogy is released!! Can't use coupon with preorder...

Anyone ever able to talk a sales person at a BN store into using the coupon after it expires somehow??

Hate the timing. All of the Criterion I want come out the 2nd half of November...

Should be a black friday coupon available just before then (so like a week from now), just use that when it comes out!

As I'm continuing the short films of Les Blank, I am happy to report that I'm on disc 2 now and watched 2 films last night (Hot Pepper and Always for Pleasure). Both were solid! I particularly found the latter film highly informative as I learned a lot about New Orleans city culture revolving around Mardi Gras. I can only wonder if such a united culture exists today 40 years after this was filmed there. I've yet to visit New Orleans but this single film has reignited my curiosity and desire to experience Mardi Gras now.

That's absolutely fine. I bought the Region B version and love it.

Either way, more Frankenheimer is welcome.

I saw some people say that they're just a general coupon, so maybe it will be floating around the deals section?
Just keep an eye open on the sale thread!

When I watched my first Ozu Tokyo Story some time ago, I honestly couldn't understand what all the fuss is about. Maybe it's just not a good entry point, it's really slow, solemn and somewhat stale. Everything else I watched afterwards I liked much more (e.g. An Autumn Afternoon, Equinox Flower).

I particularly loved Good Morning, a much lighter film, ranging between slightly amusing and laugh-out-loud funny. The kid in the lead effortlessly carries the film. There's something of a similarity between Ozu und Tati in the observation of little details and the music which feels very french. My point is, don't give up on Ozu too soon.

The Essential Jacques Demy because The Umbrellas of Cherbourg and The Young Girls of Rochefort are two of the greatest films ever made and Lola is a gem.

John Cassavetes: Five Films because The Killing of a Chinese Bookie is phenomenal, Faces is one of the important independent films to be made, and A Woman Under the Influence easily has one of the greatest performances by any female actress.

The Qatsi Trilogy because Koyaanisqatsi will change your life. I hate that I have to hold on to the box set for one film, but if I have to, I will continue holding on to it until the day that I die.

Three Colors Trilogy because Kieslowski is the master of crafting dramas on chance encounters and human existence.

I completely agree on both The Essential Jacques Demy and Three Colors.

BTW, I'm not saying I disagree on the other two. But I don't own them so can't really comment fairly.

+1 To Cassavetes and Three Colors, both have an astounding amount of supplements, and you really can't go wrong with any of them.

But just based on bang for buck, I would get the most expensive of the two with the inevitable 30% or more Black Friday coupon in two weeks.

Personally, I love America Lost and Found: The BBS Story. It covers a fascinating time in American film, and I'd argue that 5 of the 7 films are really great. Nice thick booklet too.

On an unrelated note, I've recently had my first viewings of both Don't Look Now and The Brood (both via Criterion). Very impressed by both, and I was surprised at how similarly both movies ratcheted up the suspense and terror through camerawork and editing. I have to wonder if Roeg was a big influence on Cronenberg. Barring the
[Show spoiler]supernatural element of The Brood they also have in common tiny murderers running around!
I didn't watch them back-to-back, but they would make for quite a terrifying double feature!

I was thinking on selling here to avoid ebay fees, but seems Criterions don't sell that well on here, selling for $15 and with the high paypal fees I am getting for International payments and shipping I would end up at around $10 profit.

What I like on eBay is that you get special shipping price and can easily print the labels with free tracking.
Regarding shipping: one of the smartest things I have ever done was to set up an account at USPS.com. Now when I trade blu-rays with another forum member, I visit the website, enter their name and address, and purchase discounted postage using PayPal. After paying, I can print out the pre-paid label at home, and all I have to do is hand it to the postal worker. No muss, no fuss, plus some decent savings ...
