Nothing is better than your spouse rolling her eyes each night when you pop in a new Criterion, but not saying a word because she knows it makes you happy. I have most of my Thanksgiving break free time set aside to watch the Apu Trilogy.

But, first, I will have to do my annual Black Friday ritual of watching Mr. Mom with the kids while my wife shops. Anybody else doing a double feature of Apu and Mr. Mom?

Following is a no brainier, get it. I would say its one of Nolan's best films.

I loved Everlasting Moments but it can feel a bit slow at times, but I did enjoy it, only seen once though and was a while back >.>
Thanks for this.

I'm honestly not the biggest Nolan fan, but I am quite curious about seeing his beginnings. I've enjoyed watching his progression over time, and think he's certainly interesting but getting better.

Everlasting Moments I'm curious about because of the other Troell works in the collection and that I've seen.

Love Morris, so I think the Hawking film is a must for me too. I was actually shocked when I realized that I DIDN'T buy it last year. Same for the Fassbender set. I assumed I did and just never got around to looking at them. Such in the case when you buy more than you can watch, haha.

Really fabulous month, all in. Especially delighted in seeing the wonderful "Io la conoscevo bene", a film almost unseen outside Italy (and it's criminal, even if it's defin. not related to "La Dolce Vita"...) and one of Ooshima's masterworks, "Death by Hanging".

I couldn't help myself, I took an early/long lunch and picked up Apu at B&N. (along with Mulholland Drive, Rushmore, Battle of Algiers, Carlos, Code Unknown, and The Bridge) The packaging is beautifully designed. It's similar to the Demy set (individual slips for each film inside the bigger box) but much much thinner. Fits nicely on the shelf with the other digipacks. If no one has posted pics of the set I will post some this afternoon after work.

I only had time to watch the restoration doc and it was very well done. Much more in-depth than the Demy restoration demos. The images of the burned OCN were heartbreaking.

I'm so excited. I'm holding out for Black Friday for the inevitable BN Black Friday coupon that is usually like 30 percent off.

Yeah, I've had lots of conversations about this. We can talk Nolan more in PM if you so choose-I don't want the thread to get away from the topic at hand once it moves past Following.

Now that you mention it, I have been watching the extras on Cries and Whispers, and saw one of his essays or deconstruction more than essay, it was great, every release should come with one of those .

I think I have never been disappointed with the visual essays, it is just too bad very few releases seem to come with them, they should focus more on them in my opinion, wouldn't mind if they replaced entirely the booklets for more of them actually.

Can't argue with any of this. I'm partial to his Ozu stuff, but I also loved his essay on La Dolce Vita.

His piece is the best on the box, but not just because of him.

It doesn't really feel like his recent works, if you have seen Memento it has more of that feel to it, its nothing like anything he's done since The Prestige tbh.

As I said, for me its his best piece alongside Memento.

In terms of audio and video quality, the criterion release of Rosemary's baby is as good as you can get. Is it worth $40? I'd say yes or possibly no depending on how important this movie is to you. But I can gaurantee most of the spoiled Americans on this forum who refuse to pay for a movie unless it's at least %50 off would give a resounding "no not worth it" answer.

Finally got in on the B&N Criterion sale today. Grabbed a good amount of unseen titles that I'm really excited about...

Apu Trilogy
Tati Box Set
Y Tu Mama También
Don't Look Now
Friends of Eddie Coyle
Secret of the Grain

Apu, Don't Look, Friends and Secret are all new to me. I'm already looking forward to spending some time with all of these titles over the holidays.

You're not going to use it to demo your system but the audio and video are both excellent.

Well, he's talking about Canadian dollars so it's already half off.

So Canadians aren't Americans?

Looking at Rosemary's Baby at amazon.ca it seems it was quite some time around 29 CAD(~22 USD), I think it is worth it at that price, but it depends on how much you like to spend on your movies.
