Still to watch:
2/5 November releases (The Apu Trilogy, Ikiru)
4/4 December releases (Burroughs, Downhill Racer, Jellyfish Eyes, Speedy)
3/5 January releases (The American Friend, Bitter Rice, Lady Snowblood)
3/5 February releases (Death by Hanging, The Emigrants/The New Land, I Knew Her Well)
far more impressive than just owning all the titles.

I am like 10-12 titles behind, including Les Blanks, Shoah, By Brakhage and Hollis Frampton.

I don't think I could ever find the time to watch some of those, I will see the Les Blanks set because I was able to get it in the recent eBay price mistake though, but after I finish all my pending to see blu-rays.

Most of those can be watched in parts rather than 1 sitting (who'd want to sit through Shoah in one go tbh?)

It's certainly helped me decide which films I like and which I don't.

I'm glad that I watched Salò, or the 120 Days of Sodom on YouTube instead of blindly buying the Blu-ray.

The collector in me would never let me divest of parts of the collection the way you have, but somewhere inside there is a part of me jealous of your ability to downsize and minimize.

It wasn't as bad as I thought, but I haven't seen a Pasolini film that I've enjoyed yet, so...

I have collected things in some capacity all of my life.

I had a lot going on in my life a few years ago and I made an effort to change the person who I was and would continue to be. Part of this involved divesting myself of stressors, which included things I had collected in the past.

I have realized that I want to be my own unique individual and own things and do things that I enjoy and bring me happiness. If I don't like a Pasolini film, for example, there's no point in me owning it because it's a waste of money, time, and space, and it's something I have no interest for.

Agreed, the only place I have trouble is when it comes to directors that are already some of my favorite, I just get this urge to own all their movies, or at least the ones I don't hate, specifically from Criterion since they at least come with supplements that help knowing more about the person and his work.

For example as much as I like Bergman, I wasn't particularly fond of Summer Interlude and Summer With Monika, I still liked them and the latter has a great deal of extras so I am still inclined to get that at some point, and not the other bare-bones release.

I know what you're saying. I'm sort of like that with Bergman.

As much as I love Bergman and his catalogue, I don't know if I could rewatch Autumn Sonata, Cries and Whispers, or Summer with Monika.

You're braver than me. I took a shower after watching the trailer and I enjoy the other films I've seen from Pasolini.

Salo, or the 120 Days of Sodom isn't that bad - Sweet Movie is more disgusting but just as good, need that upgraded

a few observations...

for as much as you and I have disagreed on 'smaller' films, we tend to agree on the higher profile stuff, as the highlighted titles would probably be in my top 10 or top 15.

you really had a 180 degree change in sentiment towards The Third Man! that's cool cause it's awesome!

I give certain films the benefit of the doubt, especially if there's a little something something that stays with me after it's over (i.e. La Grande Illusion).

yes, definitely.. speaking to the point I made in my last point, I had the same feeling towards LGI, which I also saw for the first time a few months ago. I thought the last 30 minutes or so were magical. Everything up to that point didn't quite click. I blind bought the blu, though, and will definitely be watching it again some time.

Although I have all of the blu-rays I have only viewed approximately 25% of them. Of the rest of my blu-ray collection I've only viewed about 50%.

This may seem wasteful or hordey to some, but I very much enjoy perusing my titles and choosing something new that looks interesting. There is no need for me to go to a video store anymore because I have more than enough (and a better selection) to see.

For the last several weeks I've been averaging about 5 films a week. I don't know when I'll get caught up, but I've been enjoying this new world of cinema much more than watching the same films over and over again on TBS.

I loved the last 30 minutes, but some of the earlier scenes seemed to be a bit long.

often times when I think about accumulating films, I fantasize about creating a true 'library' like the one you are describing. I just don't want to do it for what it would cost. but if you or anyone else can afford it, then party on.
