Well.... I just paid $6 for shipping...... Couldn't justify buying $50 worth of anything to get the free shipping I just wanted my "House" shirt.... and a Size 4-T Criterion-logo shirt for my kid....

Sitting on the fence on several NON 16:9 releases like Branded to Kill and Tokyo Drifter , and The Night Porter. Was hoping for 16:9 upgrades for those titles.

Mind you I did purchse MONA LISA for the simple fact I wanted to listen to the commentary after I see the IMAGE BLU release. (pending positive transfer reviews.)

I accidently purchased AUTUMN SONOTA but was shcoked it wasn't 16:9 so I am gonna exchange that title. That should be released in HD for sure.

Oh, well that's too bad. Sometimes even some of the "region-free" releases have 1080i/50hz previews at the beginning, which would make them unplayable unless you're allowed to skip past them. Yeah, so the best bet when reading the reviews that are labeled "region-free" is to make sure you read the Video ratings section, as well, to see if there are any noted problems with American players.

The last Criterion update for those two titles was back in December 2009... apparently, new transfers are available so new remastered versions could come at some point in the future, but who knows when?

You won't regret it. Sunrise is a great movie. Watch the extended Czech version first.

Just recieved Black Narsissus, Red Shoes from B&N Hmm which should I watch first?

Hello,

Could you please post the titles you received incorrect coding information for? Which reviews?

I stand 100% behind our official import reviews when it comes to correct region-coding information. In fact, I have specifically marked certain 1080/50i titles that are region-free as Region-B "locked" so that there are no issues for people importing to North America. Obviously, I cannot keep track of the random notes different members leave in the comments section of our reviews, but the official specs are an entirely different matter.

Finally, I am going to speak with the developers to see if we can "lock" the region status on every single import release that has been reviewed by a staff member on the site as I suspect that the incorrect information you received was from a member.

Anyhow, I am looking forward to you linking the reviews here (or PM them to me as I rarely read this thread)

I haven't quite stuck to my plan of buying every Criterion Blu-ray but I do have the majority and have been impressed with almost all of the films. The majority I had not seen before and now consider many of them among my favorites.

Just got Black Narcissus today and hopefully will watch tonight.

I'm in the same boat, but there are a few titles I just don't care to have.

For all the Veteran's out there. Will Barnes and Noble be having another 50% off criterion titles this coming November? I want ever single title coming out between now and Nov.

I do expect a Nov-Dec B&N sale. But is expecting enough, because no one really knows. They keep doing it, because I guess it's prob the biggest sale they have. They just repeated the summer sale, so I can see a repeat of the winter one as well.

Just saw this on Facebook from Criterion

Coming soon to the online store!

Not sure if they are referring to a poster, or DVD/Blu-ray releases.

You need to wear that to the cinematheque. That'd be cool--- plus I'd then know who the Criterion guy is

It's one of the five films that Criterion did not release on their main line or Eclipse but only on their Essential Arthouse.

"Howards End" is not my type of film that I want to rewatch, so it's low on my priority unless I ever see it very cheap, then I'll pick it up. The same with "Monsoon Wedding". "Lola Montes", as much as I enjoy Ophüls films, I've watched this film before and I've mentioned on here that I felt that the actress selected was not the right person for the role (I believe Ebert mentioned the same thing in his review). So, also low priority. Personally, if you want to add an Ophuls film to your collection...go for "The Earrings Madame De" (which I wish gets the Blu-ray treatment).

"Secret of the Grain" on the other hand is a very good film and I highly recommend the Blu-ray release.

Thanks for the time and the information. It pretty well fits with the way I feel; and I'll have to look into "Kapo" too.

I would just like to give a big thanks to Dr. Svet Atanasov, the person who writes the awesome Criterion reviews here for this site!

I picked up "Touchez Pas au Grisbi" and "Le Trou." The sale has been one where I have ended up getting a lot of out of print movies. I didn't plan it that way. That is how it has worked out though. I guess better now, than later on when the price is much higher. I really enjoy the Film Noir genre.

I agree with your opinion...very posssible that B&N will repeat the November sale from last year. They have quite a nice release schedule in the upcoming months.

Le Trou is one if not the greatest prison escape film ever! I can't tell you how great this film is. I am saddened that Criterion lost the rights. I would have loved to seen this film in HD on blu.

Does anyone have files of the cover art for each film in the PIGS, PIMPS, and PROSTITUTES box set. I wanted 348X490 Cover art for the included films. Same for the Nikkatsu Noir Eclipse set.

I have never seen it. I am looking forward to it. Thanks for the plug. I also have my eye on "Naked Prey." It is one of my favorite movies. I would love to see it come to Blu-ray.
