It's one of my least favorites, but not "by far". For me, it's a toss-up between that and A View to a Kill, with The Man with the Golden Gun not far behind.

Can't really agree. Well, to some extent you're not far off the money. Jonathan Pryce was a bit of a cheesy villain in Tomorrow Never Dies. But as I said before, Brosnan gives his best performance as Bond in The World Is Not Enough. It was the first time since the early Connery films that Bond was portrayed as a stone cold killer. And Carlyle and Marceau were probably my favorite Bond villains.

As you say, everyone thought for years that Brosnan would make a great Bond, but I think that people were familiar with him from Remington Steele and so expected a bit of silliness/camp in the same vein as the Roger Moore films. I certainly did myself, and was rather surprised when he turned out to be a solid action movie star.

I know Criterion will probably not be doing anything, but anyone know which boutique labels will be doing black Friday deals?

I know:

Arrow - mentioned they'll be doing something
MOC - sale at website as well as their Amazon UK store
Cinema Guild - 50% off msrp for all dvd/blu at their website (including preorders)

Anyone know of others?

Dumping The Maltese Falcon in order to keep Moonraker or Octopussy is at least as crazy as having hundreds of discs but no Bond.

At least.

Didn't realize you were such a diehard James Bond fan! We should trade screennames.

Warner is the next one for me too, at 7.3% of my entire blu-ray collection. Just a bit less than you.

All this talk of Bond is inspiring me to watch all the movies starting with Dr. No.

Ironic that I'm the cause of all this Bond talk too. lol.

Ugh...what would make anyone in Amazon's shipping department think it was ok to ship a digipak of Don't Look Back and Ikiru together in the skimpiest envelop they have available?

Fortunately the Criterion fairy was watching over my package and it arrived in good shape.
This could have been an insurmountable disaster.

well, shame on James Bond, although to his defense they had only released their super poppy stuff by 1964.
He had obviously not yet heard the beautiful harmonies on the Lennon trilogy that open Beatles for Sale. And speaking of Beatles, happy birthday to Pete Best!

Just a quick heads-up for everyone to check their emails: I just got my Barnes and Noble 30% off coupon for Black Friday weekend.

I met Pete Best years ago at a Beatles fan convention! I asked him what he thought of bands like Oasis (who I loved) who made their fame while aping The Beatles. He told me, "I'm not too keen on them." Very British, indeed.

And in today's Hollywood Reporter, Oscar prognosticator Scott Feinberg is saying that Emmanuel Lubezki stands a good chance of winning his third Oscar in a row for his work on The Revenant, even though Deakins might normally be a sentimental favorite for his work on Sicario. His reasoning? The names of the cinematographers don't appear on the Oscar ballots ... only the pictures they're nominated for.

Feinberg is also saying that Leonardo di Caprio is probably the frontrunner in the Best Actor Race, also for The Revenant. Feinberg is uncommonly adept at picking the winners, so I pay close attention to his predictions.

Yeah, I'd go with The Assassination of Jesse James ... as well. It's an amazingly underappreciated film. And it is one of the most beautiful films I've ever seen.

I'd definitely go w/ From Russia w/ Love... it has a really good plot and a good villain... it doesn't feel campy or anything like that. it almost feels, to me anyway, like a late Hitchcock.. Torn Curtain, but better

btw.. I think I have like 41% Criterion, which surprised me a bit as I don't care who releases a film - as long as the PQ reviews are good and the price is right, I'm in

yep... those who know, though, know. one of the few American titles from this century that is really special.

I bought it hearing a few good things... then it proceeded to sit on my shelf for over a year before my wife and I put it on on a whim. We both really liked it!

Casey Affleck's performance was one of those few that completely left me speechless by the end.

The Assassination of Jesse James is a title Criterion needs to get. The current BluRay is okay, but what's really wanted is the 4 hour cut that was the directors original and favorite edit of the movie.

Hopefully this weekend.

Recent good deals on Bond movies, had me add Sean Connery Vol 1 (Dr. No, From Russia with love, Goldfinger), Roger Moore Collection Vol 2 (For your eyes only, Moonraker, A View to a kill, Octopussy) and Craig's Casino Royale for nothing (after selling the Digital Copies)...I am just not sure I will keep them, so I have not added them to my collection in forum yet...

I will probably keep them but...

I love Lebowski, it would be a good fit and it could stand a makeover but I also love Assassination which would be a better fit and which would probably benefit more from a makeover.

That said, Homicide (though I don't particularly care for it personally) is a perfect fit and has no Blu-ray release at all (at least I don't think so, it definitely hasn't been released in the US though).

I think I would have to go with Homicide.
