Yeah, saw that earlier. I'm going to have a Malick-a-thon! this weekend. I cannot believe that I need to wait until freakin' MARCH to see this, though.

My statistics as of now!
46.6% of my collection is Criterion with Warner coming in second at 14.6%
By next year I have a feeling that Arrow Video will be coming in right behind them.

I am thinking of watching a bond movie for last few weeks...I played first few minutes of From Russia with love one day and For your eyes only another day to decide which whole movie I should watch...May be I will watch one of those in upcoming days...
I do see myself as a "night"owl, but as a true owl, not quite sure about that. But if the deal is good, I'd do it. I'd trade my 007 code word for an owl any day!

We should all have a virtual reality Bond marathon in our minds this upcoming holiday season.

I wanted to ask, are there any Thanksgiving related Criterion films, besides The Ice Storm?

spoilered my reply... last post about Oasis. I promise.

[Show spoiler]after reading your post, I knew there had to be something like this out there on youtube.

some of these I didn't know about. others I would defend as "lyrical references" or homage-like nods. ..and then for a song like Cigarettes & Alcohol, they unabashedly stole the T. Rex riff and proceeded to build off of it to make (arguably) a more classic track than Get it On.

I love Noel Gallagher, btw.. love everything about his attitude, his voice, his under appreciated song writing, his shoes , his hair, etc.

I'm watching Apu Trilogy and Mr. Mom for Black Friday. However, I could not recommend Apu to everyone.

Thanks. Yes, I've seen a mention at the criterion site, although it's not a Thanksgiving movie.

Forgive me but I fail to see ANY relation whatsoever of the Apu Trilogy (although I haven't seen it) to Thanksgiving!

It only relates to MY Thanksgiving. I get stuck with kids on Black Friday so I always watch Mr. Mom with kids. And, this is the first free time I will have to watch Apu.

Seriously I thought about watching Babette's Feast. I may catch it if I need an Apu break.

The Criterion Collection makes up 18.4% of my Blu-ray collection, so it is the predominant studio.
...although, if Kino Lorber keeps up their crazy streak, then Criterion may fall by the wayside in a year or so.

[Show spoiler]On the subject of franchise films...

On Black Friday, my plan is to stay home and revisit all six of the Star Wars movies back-to-back, starting with Episode I: The Phantom Menace.
Yep...
One reason is that I'm running a half marathon on Thursday morning before spending the rest of the day with family, and then I'm running another half marathon on Saturday morning. Friday will be a rest-and-recover day, and I really don't want to go out in the heavy traffic, since I live just a mile down the street from a big shopping mall and from all of the stores (Target, Best Buy, Walmart, etc.). Staying at home and "studying" for Star Wars: The Force Awakens seems like a better plan.
Now who ever would have guessed that you, The King of Film Noir, would be "strongly overrepresented" by that genre? That's interesting that you also earned that designation in the Western category, though. I'm a huge fan myself, but I think the bulk of mine have been recorded onto homemade DVD-Rs. Many of my favorites haven't yet made it to blu-ray; the one I'm really pining for on blu is Ride the High Country. That would make an excellent Criterion release ...

Wow, I go away for a day and this thread catches fire!

Not sure where you guys are getting your elaborate stats from, but manual calculations show I have 38.4% Criterions. I own all the Blu-Rays, but I also buy a lot of other stuff. Too much stuff really.

Sword of Doom
The Hidden Fortress
Kuroneko

IF you had to pick one, which would it be?
Definitely Yojimbo/Sanjuro. Yojimbo is a straight up masterpiece and Sanjuro is a fun change of pace. Mifune is amazing in both. The B/W transfers are fantastic to boot. Very high value in that set.

Did you download the app for this site? If you look at your categories by studio you can toggle between % of collection and # of titles.

The statistics section is weird, I get:

Strongly overrepresented: Film-Noir, Foreign, Imaginary, Psychological thriller, Surreal

even though by percentage:

Drama--------19.9%
Comedy--------7.6%
Foreign---------7.5%
Romance-------6.7%
Thriller---------5.7%
Adventure------5.4%
....(more with less than 5%)

And I have very few Film-Noir films, that genre doesn't even figures in my percentages list.

My collection (No surprise to me):

Strongly overrepresented: Dark humor, Erotic, Film-Noir, Foreign, Horror, Surreal
Overrepresented: Imaginary, Mystery, Psychological thriller, Supernatural
Underrepresented: Biography, Martial arts
Strongly underrepresented: Animation, Anime, Documentary, Family, Music, Nature, Other, Sport

As someone has already said, can you ever really be over-represented in Film-Noir? Also, Criterion was my largest Studio representation. I'd say my tastes in movies is quite accurately reflected by the stats.
