They don't seem to get the recognition they deserve these days. (Thinking out loud again).

I guess not.

Hopefully she is reunited with Ozu in the next world.

What if she actually wanted to do Kurosawa movies in which she'd be fencing and horse-riding? Don't limit her next world by what she was doing in this one

This just dropped to $14.99 at Amazon and it's a great set. Three genuine classics, one really good lesser-known (at least lesser-known to me, anyway) Bogie and a really nice documentary.

I love The Petrified Forest. It's the film that introduced me to Leslie Howard, who is one of my all-time favorite actors. Bogart's slouching, snarling take on the John Dillinger-inspired Duke Mantee character is one of the better early gangster roles I've seen as well.

To keep this Criterion related, I'm still holding out hope that my favorite Howard film, Pygmalion, will someday receive a proper blu-ray release.

...and to all my fellow US filmophiles, Happy Thanksgiving!

Yeah, I liked it a lot too. I knew nothing about it when I ordered the set but figured at worst it would be a decent filler title and it's a lot better than that.

And it looks fantastic. Warner definitely didn't skimp on the mastering/restoration.

I completely forgot to mention that. Whatever source material they had to use for the master must have been in great shape, especially for a film that was shot 80 years ago. It looks immaculate on blu.

Wild at Heart is with Twilight Time and will likely be re-issued when the three years expires. MGM put out Blue Velvet on their own. So not too likely.

Last night I dreamed The Haunting was upgraded to Blu-ray Criterion! (Within the context of the dream, I guess it was an early DVD spine.)

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Harakiri is as good as it gets imo.

...might be my favorite Criterion release.

Criterion posted a video on youtube about the score recently, I was surprised by how modern it looked

Watched The Ice Storm and Babette's Feast for Thanksgiving. I didn't realize Ice Storm was such a heartwarming family tale.
Babette's Feast is my new go-to Thanksgiving movie. So wonderful.

I haven't seen this but why does it have a relation with Thanksgiving?

Spoiler alert: Babette prepares a great feast.

Definitely the best movie I have ever seen centered around food/dining. I really did love everything about this film. I have owned this for over a year and expected it to be a bore. I thought it was captivating and such a good hearted story. 9/10 IMO.

Well, it's not technically related to Thanksgiving, but there is a village-wide feast.

Everbody gathering for a big lush dinner. Plus a poultry dish plays a certain role, though it's not a turkey. It's not a Thanksgiving dinner, they don't celebrate that outside North America.
