There several good movies centered around food, though. Like Water for Chocolate and Eat, Drink, Man, Woman come to mind right away. Tampopo is not bad either, but in a different vein (centered around a noodle shop).

Not Criterion-related, but I assume there are some other nerds on here that will appreciate this... MST3K is having a Thanksgiving Marathon on YouTube

Babette's Feast is my new go-to Thanksgiving movie. So wonderful.
The greatest film about food IMO. Phenomenal film.

I unwrapped the cellophane around my Criterion blu-ray of Mulholland Dr and watched it last night. Wow, what an incredible release this is. I haven't even gotten to all the 2+ hours of supplements yet, but I will tonight. I now proclaim this to be David Lynch's finest film of all time. I used to say Blue Velvet was his best, but I say Mulholland Dr is definitely his best. It's amazing how much subtext there is in this film. I hadn't seen this movie in years, but I remember vividly how its almost a glimpse into the life of David Lynch in the film industry and what tragedies he's seen with actresses and directors and all the hubris that producers do to make money.

It's truly one of the greatest surreal pieces of cinema that has to do with Hollywood and the film industry. I think its the modern American companion piece to .

Also, I couldn't believe how much Justin Theroux's character reminded me so much of J.J. Abrams, the director, in his resemblance! Anyone else thought of that director too? (Ironically both Theroux's character and Abrams are directors)

Wild at Heart likelihood for a Criterion release is fairly low.

Twilight Time brought it out on Blu-ray in April 2014, and have a 3-year exclusivity window, so it wouldn't be available to Criterion until April 2017 or thereabouts.

Kino Lorber brought it out on DVD in April 2015. I have no idea how long their license for it is good for.

Unless Criterion can pick up the rights for both formats, I don't see them releasing this title.

Blue Velvet is a possibility, but if MGM is willing to let it go to someone else, I imagine that there will be a cage-match fight among the various MGM catalog licensors for it.

Plus, Charles McGraw and Jeff Corey from The Killers as the fathers of the killers.

I've been busy cooking and shopping (online) so let me wish everyone who's celebrating, or perhaps recovering from, a Happy Thanksgiving!

Anyone want to recommend their top Criterion blus in terms of visuals for me? I have all the Malick films, he's my favorite, and I'm a big fan of the old school epics like Lawrence of Arabia too.

Give me about 3 years for that one.

If I were backed into a corner and asked to pick one that isn't a boxset, I'd go with Persona.

Speaking of food themed movies for Thanksgiving - one that Criterion really needs to tackle is The Cook, The Thief, His Wife & Her Lover

I dislike Harold Lloyd's films, but having just watched Speedy, I can definitely say it's a fun little film with heart.

If you folks enjoyed his two other films in the collection, you will undoubtedly love this one.

You actually dislike the other 2? or just don't enjoy them much or don't find them funny enough?

I really like the other 2 and plan to blind buy Speedy and probably any future release of his, not that I think his films are better than Chaplin or Keaton ones, but I found the 2 I have seen very funny in a very different way than those.

Knee-jerk choice is The Apu Trilogy, but I don't feel right about that as I haven't watched my copy yet. I think I'll go with My Darling Clementine.

Of course, that's in terms of the movies themselves. I don't know what I'd pick as a "release", in terms of the whole package. Probably The Battle of Algiers.

For DVD-only, I'd probably say The Passion of Joan of Arc.

For LD-only, I'd probably say Citizen Kane (50th Anniversary Edition)

A combo of the two. I didn't find them funny nor did I particularly enjoy them.
