also how are you guys ordering these opposed to other blu rays? Do you mix them in by title or have your own "criterion" section? I really haven't decided if I'll mix them with my 300 other discs or keep em seperate
Since I owned only 3 Criterions before THE SALE (have 12 now), I only now put them into their own section - right next to my digibook section.

P.S. CG, I have a tip from one Batman geek to another. Go check out the new DCAU movie "Batman: Under the Red Hood". I wasn't expecting much, but I LOVED it. It's a little jarring at first not to have Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill's voices, but it was a fantastic DCAU movie, and the best one since "Batman: Mask of the Phantasm" IMO.
1. Red Desert is my pick. But others could have different opinions.

2. Thanks. I can't remember the last time I watched a cartoon movie, but if I find it somewhere, I might check it out.

B&N doesnt have any more of The Red Shoes? Can only find the DVD on their site.

Click on the DVD link. Once you do, you will see the "other formats" selection. You will find the Blu-ray option there.

Head to your local barnes and noble and ask the manager. I asked mine and they had to do something to make it show up, because for some reason it is not located with the rest of the criterion blu rays online. I ordered it in store and have an estimated delivery of August 17th. Hope this answered your question.

Thanks for the replies on "Ran." After much deliberation, I think I am going to get the Criterion DVD for now, while the price is affordable.

The good news is that they don't ship ups; they use a combination of brokers international and Canada post. The bad news is that there's no way to track your order and it seems to take forever to arrive. My order shipped on the 16th and I've not received anything yet.

The local stores are far more likely to have it. Mine had it and Kind Hearts and Coronets (a 3-5 week "Special Order" on the site) when I went in today. Nabbed the latter for the Guinness interview.

I managed too so far keep it under $600...nothing like last November which I spent way too much. After going after the box sets that I wanted, I went after the $13.99 titles that I wanted (although I forgot to get "Samurai Rebellion" and "Il Posto" - so will need to order that).

I was a bit bummed because I had the Ozu floating weeds set in my last cart but I guess it's no longer being offered as of a few days ago (sold out?). Wanted the "Red Shoes" on Blu-ray but since it's 1-2 weeks, that would delay my order, so may order it separately on the last day.

Right now...I'm going back and forth with the following two:

Metropolitan (which I really want to see)
Eclipse Series 15 - Travels with Hiroshi Shimizu (Which the voice inside me is saying..."Buy Me! Buy Me!") Hehe...

I need two more Kurosawa films from the CC - "Drunken Angel" and "Stray Dog" but I get a feeling these titles will be released on Blu. Also, want to get "Harakiri", "The Human Condition" and Ozu's "Early Spring" along with the Bergman and Rosselini Eclipse... But I could wait until the next sale.

I've watched it online but yeah, if you can get it cheap but look on the Criterion site to see how much it's being offered along with the Red Balloon and White Mane. I believe they were offering the three films for a good price at one time.

Has anyone seen The Secret of the Grain? I heard great things. That may end up being my final B&N purchase, since I can always find Red Desert at Best Buy for $30 as opposed to $40 at B&N. Plus I want to have some money left over to get A Prophet on BD next week.

They have already been released on BD in Japan, along with most every other AK film (not English-friendly), so the material exists for 1080p rendering, and I'm sure Criterion will release as much Kurosawa (and Bergman) as they can afford to on the Blu-ray format.

I'm confused. Red Desert, The Red Shoes and The Secret of the Grain are all in the 50% off sale at B&N. So why can't you order/pick up all three for $18/$20 each right now?

Kurosawa, Bergman, Fellini, Malick, Godard, and Truffaut are the flagship directors right now for Criterion it seems. Though unless they release Badlands and acquire the rights from New Line to do a re-release of The New World, Malick is done. In any case, Criterion will more than likely try to put out several more Kurosawa films on blu-ray in the near future. I predict

Rashomon
Drunken Angel
High and Low
Ikiru
Throne of Blood
The Hidden Fortress

Those, it seems, are the big ones. But we're talking about a filmmaker whose career spanned around 70+ films. Who knows what Criterion will want to re-release or release in the future.

Money is tight, won't be getting paid until next week, when the sale is over. Gotta just pick one right now and stick with it. I was going to order The Human Condition but even that's too expensive, even at 50% off
