Yes! I would love Criterion to release Mexico's Golden Age of Cinema. Stars that include Cantinflas, Antonio Aguilar, Pedro Infante, Maria Felix, Pedro Armendáriz, Silvia Pinal, etc. I'm a little bias because my family is Mexican. I grew up watching these movies. Arrow would be perfect to release the Santo movies. My favorite are the western and action movies starring Mario Almada, Jorge Rivero, Valentin Trujillo. etc. All those gritty westerns and action films from the 60's to 80's.

Thanks all. The procedure was a success and I got out a day earlier than expected.

But I am completely out of the loop. It would indeed be A Brighter Summer (okay winter) Day if they are announced soon.

This is a very good list if one wishes to own films that are both prestigious and live up to their hype. I'd remove one of the 2 Bergmans and one of the 2 Fellinis and replace them with something French (Breathless or Jules and Jim) and a Satyajit Ray film (The Big City probably)

iScottie list is good but it's missing a western, either Stagecoach or My Darling Clementine. I'd replace The Third Man for Stagecoach. The Third Man is OOP for crying out loud.

Everybody has their preferences but this is from the most recent Sight & Sound critics' poll. I've listed every entry that has a currently in-print Criterion blu ray release along with its poll position.

3. Tokyo Story
4. The Rules of the Game
10. 8 1/2
12. L'Atalante
13. Breathless
15. Late Spring
17. Seven Samarai
17. Persona
21. L'Avventura
24. In the Mood for Love
26. Rashomon
28. Mulholland Drive
33. Bicycle Thieves
39. The 400 Blows
39. La Dolce Vita
41. Journey to Italy
42. Pather Pachali
42. Play Time
42. Close-Up
48. The Battle of Algiers
50. City Lights

Anyway, it's a place to start.

p.s. If you're wondering, Vertigo and Citizen Kane were in positions one and two respectively.

I would have included a western, but the best westerns, in my opinion, are not available from Criterion.

Giant (more of a drama than a western)
The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance
McCabe and Mrs. Miller
Once Upon a Time in the West
The Searchers

The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance is one of the best films I've ever seen. I love it! I do enjoy Clint Eastwood westerns as well though.

Bicycle Thieves has an in print Criterion blu-ray? Know something about today's announcement that we don't?
