This fellow is savvy.

I haven't had this much on the line with a trade since the 6th grade when Billy Winslow tried to seduce me into parting with my Dwight Gooden rookie card for a 1985 Don Mattingly and two packs of Big League Chew bubble gum.

...what an agonizing decision that was.
Dr. K was sick in the mid 1980's. I wouldn't have made that trade either.

I do see your point now, though. if you buy on eBay, you're out $35-40 and still have the 3 titles to move.

Ha, that I have! Only just opened my laptop for the first time since I clocked off of work on Xmas eve. Hope everyone had a great couple of days.

The best piece of advice I could give to anyone who is serious about getting in to Godard is to pick up a decent book as a companion. I'd recommend Richard Brody's one, Everything Is Cinema. I would also recommend the piece I've written on Breathless that features in this month's Sight & Sound (PLUG ALERT!).

While I'm here;

Hugo is excellent. I love Tree Of Life, but didn't begrudge Hugo taking the cinematography prize that year. It's a beautiful looking film and as big a fan I am of Lubezki I do think of Robert Richardson as on the same sort of tier as him, as cinematographers go.

I've got that book. Shame on me, though.. so far, I've only paged through it about as much as one would picking up the book at a book store and then putting it back down.

I don't think that chapters are devoted to each specific film... maybe that's why?

Apparently, I couldn't find the essay..either that or I never actually wrote about it, but I distinctly and clearly remember watching that in my film class back in 2002! Perhaps it was an in-class essay we had to write! I hate those.

BUT... great news. I found a paper I wrote on Godard's Alphaville! This was written in my first year studying film, and it was one of my first film classes "World Film History", so my knowledge wasn't so great then (written in 1999). Anyway, I've created a text file out of it and attached it here!

To all of you who read it, enjoy!

No they're not, at least not from a certain point on. It's pretty episodic for the early pictures tho. Apt for his career tho it all becomes a little muddy post-68.

Army of Shadows is an amazing film, but seeing as I think Don't Look Now is an even more amazing film... I wouldn't do it.

Just ordered Watership Down after reading some of the comments on here. Loved the book when I was in High School. Not too bad of a price on deepdiscount after the 15% off, no tax, and free shipping

I remember 7th grade a guy trying to make me swap triple for his X-Men Magneto card. As it turned out the cards he turned down in a single trade were the ones which had been under printed and he was never able to complete his set...

I'm trying to hit some of the absolute classics I have failed to watch in the collection. Tonight I watched The Passion of Joan of Arc. It doesn't even feel like a movie as much as an emotional experience. No wonder it is held in such high regard.

It is in my humble opinion one of the best movies ever made.

Didn't know we had any other Buffalonians in the thread. North Park is a great theatre.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: It's the only silent film that I've ever really emotionally affected by.

...it's great.

...especially the music.

And the
[Show spoiler]execution scene
is shockingly graphic, even by today's standards.

I dont think you need to spoiler tag the ending of Joan Of Arc
