Do Criterion ever reveal what the answers are to the clues after the fact, once the title has been released, or do they just leave them open to interpretation?

Keep dreaming my friend because that is the exact baby cart from Lone Wolf, right down to the staff on top

  • Dressed to Kill
  • Inside Llewyn Davis
  • Valerie and Her Week of Wonders

I'd chime in re: the drawing, but I'm terrible at deciphering these.

A real shot in the dark here, but could the saturn looking planet be The Effect of Gamma Rays on Man-in-the-moon Marigolds?

Not a guess, but a clarification of the drawing on closer look: the tramp looking kid is carrying the Easy Rider bike on his shoulder.

I just discovered that Milestone will be releasing Masterpieces of Polish Cinema.

Not sure how the potential rights issues with Criterion will be handled.

Hmm....
The Queen of Hearts represents Jackie Onassis. The pelican could represent her donating a pelican to the Greek island Myconos after its pelican mascot died in the mid 80s. As for what film represents this, I have no clue... it can't be the upcoming biopic with Natalie Portman that just began filming, could it?

Twilight Time has confirmed that they're releasing this.

I'm horrible at guessing these clues, but could the island be Bunuel's Robinson Crusoe (1954)? Very stoked about McCabe and Mrs. Miller, if that's what the man in the bowler hat represents.

Someone guessed it correctly I think, The Naked Island. I have the Master of Cinema release and it's an excellent choice by Criterion.

But the island in the pic isn't naked; it has a single person on it.

We can see the islander's butt (there's a teensy little line).

Criterion-related -- wrote a blog post on 2015 in film, with movies from this year plus discoveries (including multiple CC titles). Check it out! https://popculturepundit.wordpress.c...-2015-in-film/

Nice find! Any idea I'd the Polish set has English subs?

Picnic at Hanging Rock. I wasn't prepared for the haunting experience this film provided me and I'm thankful for it.

I missed that little detail on my phone. The Bunuel film would be cool, though.

I see:

Three Kings
The Manchurian Candidate
Dr. Strangelove
The New World
Easy Rider
Chimes at Midnight
The Squid and the Whale
Phoenix
The Kid
I don't think that's Easy Rider, I think that's Werner Herzog's Even Dwarfs Started Small (which features a dwarf on a chopper).

Edited to add: Doesn't the guy with the sax look a lot like Robert de Niro in Scorsese's New York, New York? Also, note his boots and robe, could be a double clue for Raging Bull.

It's likely both. That chopper with the flag motif is exactly the same as the one in Easy Rider

That was on the Shout! Box and I think it got an individual release. Pretty sure it is Easy Rider.
