Or like The Kid with a Bike

Well we know the Motorcycle looks exactly like in Easy Rider, and the kid's clothes look much more like The Kid than from something like Polanski's Oliver Twist.

haha, If it were 2012 (or 2013's) New Year's drawing, I think everyone would think it was for that before anything else . The Kid does look too similar to Chaplin's The Kid to be anything else, and the bike is pretty much identical to the Easy Rider one. These clues for already announced and/or released titles just feel like a waste to me. This is definitely one of their weaker New Year's drawings in recent years in my opinion.

Yeah I think the same, and the weird thing, is that after checking previous years drawings I don't think they have done this before, in 2012 drawing there were controversy about Night to Remember/Pina, Three Outlaw Samurai/Samurai Trilogy, other than that I see nothing, maybe someone with better memory.

Nice, ordered The Life of Oharu myself.

I've been really into Japanese cinema lately, so much so, that I'm not interested in watching anything else.

I was trying to decide between 3 movies and was not able to decide, so I took help from random.org to select one randomly...

It selected Fish Tank.jpg

The other 2 I was considering were

The complete Jean Vigo
Sunday Bloody Sunday

I may order one more tonight...

It definitely did NOT make the right decision. L'Atalante is a top 20 film all time. I've watched it 4 or 5 times since acquiring it.

I liked the movie, don't get me wrong, but I can't say I was head over heels in love with it like many seem to be.

The set is also only worth owning for that film, in my opinion.

anyone obsessing over the hint with the Kennedy car with the queen card in it, just go to Criterion.com and look at the heading picture in the Manchurian Candidate listing.

It would fit except it's not a Queen of Diamonds

I lucked out today and found the Image DVD release of De Sica's Shoeshine for $.99. Does anyone happen to know the current US distribution rights situation for this one?

Hungary has brought some of the greatest photographic eyes in cinema, and this man was exceptional. He was a legend of his craft and many films in the Criterion Collection (including the upcoming McCabe and Mrs. Miller) were graced by his camera.

Wow. I was just watching a documentary on him on CNN early yesterday morning.

I even looked him up and saw that he was still alive.

Got to see a 35mm print of CE3K last year. A genius. He will be missed.

That's very sad news, regarding the death of legendary cinematographer Vilmos Zsigmond. I've always thought his incredible work on De Palma's Blow Out made the movie.

On a happier note, the National Society of Film Critics announced their 2015 awards today, and they voted a "Film Heritage Award" to the Criterion Collection and LiImmagine Ritrovate for the restoration and packaging of The Apu Trilogy. Congratulations to Criterion and to LiImmagine; the honor was definitely deserved.
